This is indeed a bare-bones, no-frills set of speakers suitable for a Zune HD. It is so basic that there are no included instructions for assembly, battery installation or use. The stand for your MP3 device works if the 3.5mm output jack is on top. In my case the Zune HD sits upside down in the stand. I don't intend to switch music tracks around a lot while using this product--it'll keep me company while I'm working out.
The sound quality is acceptable without making the output tinny or harsh. Overall, I found this item an inexpensive alternative to lugging a CD boom-box, finding an AC outlet, etc.

They are small, fragile, sound tinny and the first time I tried to use batteries in it I thought I was going to burn the house down. They got so hot that I actually burned my finger removing them from the unit.
I sent a note quickly back to the company about it and did not receive any follow up. Very poor experience.

The INSTEN Folding Stereo Speaker is not the Alpha-Omega of speakers, but it is definitely a hot purchase for under $5.00 (and that includes shipping!). I was somewhat worried when it arrived, as the company that sent it to me did the worst packing job possible, shipping the INSTEN's flimsy paper box inside a thin plastic bag. However, despite a few bumps to the box, the speaker system itself came through like a trouper with no damage at all.
The speaker comes with a cord to attach it to a computer, or you can use batteries (four AAA). The wire that connects the iPod to the INSTEN is exactly the right length. The iPod sits loosely in the unit, so be sure to place the system on a stable surface. It took less than a minute to set up the speaker and turn it on. First thing I noticed was the INSTEN's blue power light. I love that blue light; I hope it never burns out! Next, I selected a song on my iPod and cranked up the volume. Not bad at all! For its size, the INSTEN produces a good, solid stereo sound. Its little speakers even throb to the music.
One caveat: keep an eye on your iPod's battery indicator when you use the INSTEN. The four AAA batteries don't supply power to the iPod--just to the system.
Bottom line, I love the INSTEN Folding Stereo Speaker. You can take this thing anywhere. I think this item would make a great stocking stuffer for anyone who wants to play their iPod without headphones. And it definitely won't break the bank.

While this is not exactly the highest quality speaker, it is exactly as advertised, exactly what I was looking for, and an unbelievable deal (the cheapest ones I could find before I bought this were literally 10 times as expensive. Good quality, and came when I was told it would come. Would definitely do business with this company again.
