Digital camera reviews of IOGEAR Wireless-G High Speed USB 2.0 Adapter GWU523Digital camera Review: Low signal level Summary: 2 Stars
The SW installation went find. Need to reboot after driver installed and then device is recognized.
I use several computers in my family room with my wireless hub upstairs. All get full strength except this one. This one gives me one bar low quality all the time and disconnects for 10-20 seconds once every fifteen minutes or so.
Digital camera Review: Nice adapter, good value. Summary: 5 Stars
With as many problems that wireless can have, this adapter was a sigh of relief for me. Installation was straightforward and I didn't have to spend a lot of time getting it to connect to both an Apple Airport Extreme network or a 2Wire modem. The UI looks somewhat antique, and I haven't quite figured out how to disable it. However, it works fine on limited accounts with Windows XP Pro and 2000 Pro if installed on an administrator account. On W2K machines, it (or the software) resets itself during user login making remote administration cumbersome. But, it's a good adapter and a good value.
Digital camera Review: No Problems, Installed quickly. Summary: 4 Stars
This was installed into an old desktop that came from a corporate sell off. Windows XP was still on the machine. i had no problem installing the divice and it picks up signal easily from the router which is located one floor below the desktop.
Digital camera Review: Ok for the Price Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for a quick and cheap solution to getting my desktop online. It installed easy on Windows 7 32bit and 64bit using the Vista drivers included on the cd. It works well for browsing websites but when I do heavy downloading or video streaming on sites like hulu it tends to get hot and I lose connection for about a minute.
(before someone says it could be my wireless router: when I lose connection on the desktop I fire up my laptop and it connects so I know its not the router)
For the price I'm fairly pleased with it but I'm looking for an internal PCI wireless card to replace this.
If you're looking for a cheap quick solution for browsing websites and checking email this is a good device but if you're like me and do heavy downloading and streaming spend a little extra and get an internal card.
Digital camera Review: Poor signal strength and problem staying connected Summary: 2 Stars
Bought this to be able to set up my mother's desktop computer about 50 feet away from the router (through 3 drywall interior walls, and we had a wooden fireplace shell installed on one way). Setup took a reboot or two before the software would show up and connect to the already working wireless network in the house.
Every 10 seconds, the adapter disconnects from the internet and reconnects. This is not a decent connection as both laptops in the house have full signal capability when in the same spot as this adapter.
To test it out, I installed it on my own desktop system in the same 3 foot area as the wireless router is. Not 3 feet away from the router, this adapter only gets 83% of the signal most of the time, but does not disconnect like it did on my mother's. Only occasionally have I seen it get above 90% signal strength and the router's AP is less than 4 feet away. Piece of junk. The only reason it got 2 stars is because of the price and the fact that it didn't disconnect on my own desktop.
