Digital camera reviews of IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch GUB201Digital camera Review: A bit slow, but it works Summary: 4 Stars
I've had mine for about 7 months, and it works great. Definitely a little slow to switch, but it does what it's supposed to.
Digital camera Review: A mystery Summary: 1 Stars
Installed software on two computers and set up all cables. Prints from one computer-- not other. No indication either in manual or on device how to switch. Software screen shots in booklet bear no relationship with installed software. And, of course, sit on hold for tech support. Gave up. Sent back.
Digital camera Review: A waste of good plastic Summary: 1 Stars
I got the switch to work with a Windows 7 computer but not on an XP computer - the USB device was not recognized. After two reinstalls, it still did not work. I downloaded the drivers from the IoGear website and it still did not work. Manual switching didnt work either. I called technical support and was put on hold with elevator music and was constantly informed that they were in business to support me. I was on hold for about half an hour. I then received a recorded message saying that technical support was not available but I could leave a message. I made an inquiry on their 24/7 online support but it was not online at 9 am in the morning. It took 10 hours for tech support to reply back to me via email with a question about the model number. But the model number was included in the original inquiry. I did not feel like wasting anymore time with an unresponsive tech support so back it went.
Digital camera Review: Causes more problems than it solves. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this device to share a printer between my two PC's. One runs Windows XP and the other Vista Home Premium. Setup was a breeze and the printer works perfectly. Switching is automatic so I can even "hide" the switch.
So why am I only giving this device one star? Simple. After spending over two weeks trying to figure out why my XP machine no longer recognizes any of my digital cameras or thumb drives, I traced the problem back to this switch.
Removing this switch from my system resulted in everything going back to normal.
Yes, it does allow a USB device to be shared by two PC's. However, whatever is going on inside this thing is causing hardware conflicts. Needless to say, I am looking for another brand of switch and relegating this thing to the trash can.
Proceed with caution as this switch may cause more problems than it solves.
I see that J. Mantz also reviewed this product and appears to have had the same problem. This may not be a universal issue, but I am obviously not alone in running into the problem.
Digital camera Review: Does what it claims to do Summary: 5 Stars
Great switch, simple to use. I only wish Windows would recognize the USB switching faster but that has nothing to do with this product. Recommended
