Digital camera reviews of IOGear USB 2.0 Peripherals Sharing Switch GUB201Digital camera Review: It simply works! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this thing to share a keyboard and mouse (which are plugged into a USB hub) with 2 computers. I was tired of having 2 keyboards and 2 mice on my desk!
I am using a Dell LCD monitor that has a built in USB ports and supports VGA and DVI simultaneously via a built in switch.
I can now plug in all my USB peripherals (external hard drive, keyboard and mouse) into my monitor hub and at the touch of a switch can toggle between the 2 towers.
It simply works, it takes a few seconds to kick in, but it works every time. No software installation necessary.
Note: The package comes with 1 USB cable only - so if you are looking to use it the way I did you would need 2 additional USB cables.
Digital camera Review: Junk Summary: 1 Stars
I bought the device to switch between a PC and Mac with the same mouse and keyboard; a very simple setup. It worked for about 20 minutes, then stopped working completely.
Digital camera Review: Looks good, functions poorly Summary: 1 Stars
This is not a good USB switch. Oh, it's one of the best looking, have no doubt. But many of them (yes, I've gone through a few) have switches that are substandard, which mean that many presses will go unnoticed, and you'll find that you have to press harder than you should in order to get it to register.
But the biggest flaw with this switch is that it is NOT 100% compatible. I've found some peripherals that don't work with it. If you plug the peripheral directly into the switch, the computer won't recognize it, and an error will be generated. You can sometimes get around this by plugging that peripheral into a hub, and plugging the hub into the switch - but it's a patch job, and shouldn't be necessary.
When I encountered this, I looked around for a better choice and found one - by Cables To Go (Model 30505). The Cables To Go model worked flawlessly, and supported the peripherals that this IOGear switch does not.
So, my recommendation is to avoid this switch, and purchase the Cables To Go model instead.
Digital camera Review: Love It! Summary: 5 Stars
Love It! It was exactly what I needed. Not too complicated. I hooked my laptop to one side and desktop to the other. I had to share a scanner, external hard-drive and printer. My usb air-card is a direct connect. I had piggy-backed everything else into a powered usb. works fine!
Digital camera Review: Minor software issue Summary: 4 Stars
Worked pretty well out of box. software that came with device worked well to engage with the computer remotely, but did not disengage as claimed. Another issue I had is computer will freeze during shutdown in windows XP if the device is connected, so I have to manually disengage before shutdown. My wife's Vista does not have this problem. Overall pretty satisfied with it.
