Digital camera reviews of Incredible MXZ Pocket Saw - As Seen On TVDigital camera Review: Deceptive Advertisment Summary: 1 Stars
If this thing would ever saw through metal or ceramic it would take forever! Might work well for drywall, but doesn't cut anything hard.
Digital camera Review: Don't bother Summary: 1 Stars
So, this saw is supposed to be able to cut through metal, wood, pipe, etc.. Well, in my experience, it couldn't cut through anything. First, I tried thin gauge metal, and after 100 or so strokes, I'd only progressed 3/4 inch and developed big-time Popeye arm. Same experience with a piece of wood. How can a saw not even cut a piece of wood? Build quality was also poor; in the fully extended/locked position, the blade was a bit wobbly. What a piece of junk.
Digital camera Review: Flimsy and doesn't cut fast - a workout! Summary: 2 Stars
Well, I guess it's not COMPLETE junk. I just picked this up today (thankfully at a Ross outlet store which among other overhyped
"as seen on TV products" has Swiffer sweepers - OK for picking up cat litter - and the worthless "Point and Paint".) But I digress -
when I opened the package, my eyebrows raised over how flimsy the blade felt - THIS is supposed to cut through metal and brick? The edge reminded me a lot of a grout saw. Also, the blade sort of wiggles in the holder.
But, having misplaced my folding pruning saw, I sallied forth to take off a 2-inch thick stub on a crepe myrtle I had recently trimmed. Several hours later I would still be grinding away with the MXZ, except after making some shallow notches with the saw I got fed up and managed to finish the job with lopping shears.
So it works, I guess, sort of, with a lot of strength and force. If you have nothing better to do. If it can't cut through a branch I don't think I am going to be able to use it to trim concrete modular bricks, as I had hoped. Or even cut the old nail that I can't pull from a cabinet. The size and folding feature is nice, but I have to agree with the comment that this is "the world's largest nail file." I'm just glad I've been able to try stuff like this out at outlet store prices - it's too bad, once again, great idea, too bad it's BS.
Nice thought that thieves make good use of this, though, for cutting locks, on the other hand I'm surprised they aren't caught, grinding away at a lock with this thing.
Digital camera Review: Great for handy use with 'other' blades Summary: 3 Stars
This MXZ saw is the same as the Lenox Tri-fold saw. (Just different color).
The MXZ will use any standarding 1/2 tang reciprocating saw blade.
I am buying this saw so I can use my other 'real' blades on it.
The included blade is a joke because it would be too slow to cut anything by hand.
Digital camera Review: Great product if you know what to expect. Summary: 5 Stars
This saw will cut through about anything. I have used it on glass and steel and it was able to cut through both. It doesn't cut fast at all though. It's a "Hand Saw", it takes time to cut what you are trying to cut, but it will cut it. It's not good for big jobs. It's best suited for small stuff. If you aren't expecting speed, but a versatile product which could tackle a wide variety of "small" cutting jobs, then you will likely be satisfied with the product.
It's not going to perform like a power saw, or a saw designed for one specific purpose. It does quite well for what it's meant to do in my opinion. It's meant to be one saw which can cut anything and that's what it will do.
