Digital camera reviews of Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275Digital camera Review: Great value, nice to have a power switch! Summary: 5 StarsI am very happy with this hard drive. I use it with multiple Macs running OS X Snow Leopard, so the first thing I did was re-format it for the Mac. It comes from the factory formatted as NTFS, but it is very quick and easy to re-format this for the Mac. Just run Disk Utility and follow the process for re-formatting it as ext3.
I am especially enjoying the luxury of having a power switch, so that I can primarily keep it turned off, and then easily turn it on when I want to use it. This is a nice extra that isn't found on most external hard drives, especially in this price range.
I set up this drive to be a bootable OS X hard drive, and I boot from it and then run SuperDuper! to create an image of each of my Mac's hard drives. This makes recovery very easy if/when the internal hard drive fails in the future.
I also like that the drive has an optional stand included, so you can lie it down horizontally or have it upright vertically, depending on your desk configuration.
It's a great drive and a very good price (for the 1 TB).
Digital camera Review: Challenging for some of us less-capable computer users Summary: 4 StarsThis product is probably great, but I can't really tell, because I have probably not set it up the way it needs to be set up due to the limited instructions that came with the product combined with my limited technical skills. I don't know if I downloaded the correct software and have not configured the software I did download to do what I want it to do. I think I backed up my entire laptop, but thought I would then be able to access and copy individual files from the drive just like any memory location. That doesn't appear to be the case, but perhaps I did it wrong.
Digital camera Review: Bought in November, returned in January Summary: 1 StarsThis drive looked very solid with it metal enclosure, but it lasted less than 2 months.. it made ominous clicking sounds for a couple of minutes yesterday, and then died on me. This is the worst external drive I ever bought.
Digital camera Review: Good Value, No Fuss Summary: 5 StarsThis drive is solid. It is simple, reliable and does not come with messy software. The case is heavy, but the aluminum case is tough, scratch proof and dissipates heat evenly without a loud fan. With the addition of the on/off switch, this drive gives the user the most control of any I've used before. For anyone looking for a no-nonsense drive for a superb price, this is the one. My only complain is that it makes a little more noise than I'm used to, but I think this drive makes up for that in every other way.
I use this drive for time machine backups on my Macbook Pro. I use a second partition for IPhoto/ITunes/Movies and it couldn't be easier. For the price ($95) I plan on getting a second one soon.
Digital camera Review: PIECE OF JUNK Summary: 1 StarsLasted only 7 months b4 it crashed and I rarely even used it. Technician said it would cost $650 to do a file recovery. I told him to fuhgetaboutit!
