This unit is much larger (thicker) than any other Iomega 2.5", but the drive inside is the same 9.5mm Seagate 5400.6.
The 'drop guard' inside of this consist of two silicone rails which support the board that hosts the drive. It should provide more protection than any other Iomega 2.5" external drives that also were labeled with 'Drop Guard'.
USB is slow anyway. The slow performance reported by users are likely reporting the state of their computer, not the drive or the USB controller inside of it.
