Digital camera reviews of Iomega eGo USB 2.0 320 GB Rugged Portable Hard Drive (Ruby Red)

Digital camera Review: Can't Recommend It
Summary: 2 Stars

Have you ever had that feeling when you open up a very high quality product that you have complete confidence in it and you made a good decision getting it?
Well, this one is just the opposite. As soon as I opened the box and saw that the included USB cable would not work, I had a sinking feeling about the drive.
I've got a Mac laptop with a USB port on each side. The distance between the included drive is about 5 inches. No way it is going to work. Iomega should know better and send a cable that reaches both ports. Seagate includes such a cable. Minus 2 stars.
I'd suggest buying a better brand.
I borrowed a cable to see if the drive would fire up. It did, but it only has 298 GB of space. The box said 320 GB. Losing over 20 GB is a significant loss. Minus one more star.
I'd suggest buying from a more reliable company.

Digital camera Review: Died from a 3 foot drop
Summary: 1 Stars

I had it for 3 months and it is dead. The light comes on and I hear the disk, but computers can no longer see the drive.

I dropped it from 3 feet on my wood floor. It was idle when it dropped, but apparently that does not matter.

Do not believe the term "rugged." It was not a bad drop at all, yet it killed the drive.

Oh well.

Digital camera Review: Drive failed within 1 hour
Summary: 1 Stars

Bottom Line: Drive failed within 1 hour. Will return to J$R World for replacement or money back, not sure yet.

Longer Story: Was excited about getting a product that offered both Firewire and USB capabilities. I purchased this drive partly due to the overwhelming favorable reviews. Maybe I just got the one in a million bad drive, but not sure I'll go back to Iomega so quickly. This device failed within the first hour after beginning to backup documents. My computer somehow suddently failed to recognize the drive during the transfer. Moved drive to two other computers and somehow the drive could be recognized but not used. Kept asking to be formatted. When I'd attempt to format the device it would finish by saying drive was not successfully formatted. There was no way to get around the problem or fix it. Drive couldn't be formatted and drive couldn't be used without being formatted. NOTE: I also tried it back on the same machine where it originally failed. Still didn't work.

Digital camera Review: Easy Fix!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got a laptop a while back. I had a desk top. My desk top crashed. Had no money to get top of the line new desktop. Have been using my laptop as the main at-home computer for four years one. Its hard drive ran out of space, only 40 gigs. I thought that it was going to be expensive, but this portablke hard drive was cheap! I put off installing it for two weeks, thinking that it was going to be hard, it installed it in under five minutes. Moved all the agmes and photos onto it in another 2 minutes. Amazing!

I also got a hard case to protect it if I ever move. Best buy I made in a long time!

Digital camera Review: Easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this drive as a place to backup my hard drive as well as storing files that I don't necessarily want taking up significant space. This drive has been ideal for those tasks. It's as simple to use as a thumb drive and has a ton of space for the price. This was an impulse buy and I am very glad I went with the impulse.
