I needed a speaker setup for my Ipod at work. In that regard, I needed something that was stylish, small, and had a good sound when the volume was turned down. The JBL On Stage II is all of the above. It has enough power that I have used it at home for cookouts. It also has a clear sound when the volume is turned down. I was very surprised for the price how good this speaker sounds. Even at high volumes the sound is crisp and clear. The only down fall is that it does not charge my IPOD 5th generation Nano while it is playing. This docking station is compatible with the iPod Classic. Various sources on and offline, including the manual that ships with the dock, are unclear about that. The sound is pretty good for a small, fairly inexpensive speaker. It's better in the treble and middle registers than in the bass, but my (relatively inexpert) ear didn't detect significant distortion. If you want to play music for twenty people having a little party in your living room, this speaker alone would probably suffice. If you need an excessive amount of bass, or want to use it for dozens of people in a large space, you'd need something else. The remote handles play/pause, previous/next track, and volume. To select music, you need to use the scroll wheel on the iPod itself.Digital camera Review: Good little speaker

This product has done exactly what I bought it for- allow me to plug in my iPod and listen to it from any room. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and I can hear it from the farthest corners (as long as TVs, etc aren't on as well). Like other reviewers have said, the bass leaves a little to be desired, but for such a small, convenient speaker at this price, it's not a big deal. The remote is great, it has worked well from the distances I need it (across a 15' or so room). And the speaker I ordered comes with adapters for every type of iPod, I have a 2nd generation nano and it fits nicely in the adapter dock provided. I even plugged my iPhone into it when I first got it and it worked fine. It is not battery operated, so you must have an outlet nearby to plug it into, but this also means it charges your iPod even while it plays, also a nice feature. It is a minor inconvenience to have to unplug and replug in the speaker if you want to move it to another room, but it's not like it's heavy or large at all, very portable.
