Digital camera reviews of JBL On Stage II with RF Remote

Digital camera Review: Almost perfect...
Summary: 3 Stars

I doubt this will help anybody at this point, but what the hey. I bought this at a garage sale for cheap, but even if I paid the norm it's a sweet little system. Compact, good-looking, GREAT sound, and a little clip-on remote. The only problem I found was that my ipod would occasionally freeze-up and need to be reset. Then it happened more and more. Sometimes after just ten songs played after a reset. THEN it hit me that my ipod only froze when docked into this, never by itself. Now sometimes it would play through 300 songs before it locked-up, but still. I'd guess that in six months I've had to reset my ipod 40-50 times. Again, only when in this unit. Maybe other models don't have this issue. So like my review title says....almost perfect.

This has given over two years so far of incredible, loud JBL sound using our 3 different ipods in my home. Forget a stereo, this is all you need if on a tight budget. We use in kitchen while cooking, entertaining, doing chores such as cleaning. So good, I'm thinking of buying another for my daughters room. Power pack is bulky for transporting but no big deal when you see the volume that comes out of this ring. Crisp, clear, incredilble sound!! Highly recommend to buy!!!!

Digital camera Review: Best in class

I bought the JBL On Stage II (in black) after comparing many competing systems. Dollar-for-dollar, I found it to be the best *ultracompact* iPod speaker/dock currently available. In addition to serving its primary purpose, it also doubles as external speakers for my computer. Here are some of the pros and cons:

Pros: Intuitive and elegant design; small footprint the size of a mousepad; charges your iPod as it plays; line input for use as external computer speakers or for connecting other audio devices; standard iPod cable plugs directly into the unit so you can sync while your iPod sits in the cradle; feather-touch volume controls. The small RF remote has a clean button layout, excellent range, and does not need line-of-sight with the base unit. Although weak on bass, overall sound is surprisingly rich (considering the size, which is an important caveat) with decent stereo separation.

Cons: Weak bass; bulky AC adapter; unit runs on AC power only (lacks battery option).

Overall, this is an excellent micro system with in-cradle charge/sync capability and good overall sound at a reasonable price. Note, however, that the AC adapter is massive, so consider other options if portability is your top priority.

Two quick tips for new owners: (1) there is a power button on the back of the unit (easy to overlook), and (2) remember to insert the plastic adapter piece into the dock for a better fit (should have been included with your iPod, but replacement pieces are cheap).

Digital camera Review: Buy JBL, not Altec Lansing!
Summary: 4 Stars

Purchased JBL speaker unit for daughter's iPod. Very good quality for price. Compact, comes with very handy remote. This unit would be great for a kitchen or study also!! One of the better products by far in this line for pricing and options.

When doing price and option comparisons for iPod and mp3 player speaker products, you will also find products by Altec Lansing. I have purchased an Altec Lansing product for my satellite radio (May 2006), and Altec Lansing is a poster child company for lousy customer service and no product support. Altec is not a company you want to deal with over their faulty product.

JBL Yay! Altec Lansing Nay.

Digital camera Review: Compact, nice sound, no bass
Summary: 4 Stars

No bass, but what do you expect in something this size? It gets surprisingly loud, shockingly loud even, given the size. The unit actually sounds better if you aren't right next to it. The buttons are highly touch sensitive.

If you intend this system for regular use and you have the money, I recommend stepping up to something with more bass. JBL makes a nice one (don't remember the name, but it is a vertical circle). Klipsch and Bose are the big boys in the marketplace, but they are significantly more expensive. This unit sounds better than the portable JBL one.

I have it in my bedroom for occassional use. It doesn't take up much room, and there aren't loads of wires to annoy the wife and trip up the kids.

The remote is a nice touch, and actually I do use it.

I got mine for a great price here on Amazon.
