I purchased my first one brand new and paid a lot of money for it but it has wonderful sound. I listen to books as well with great clarity. The nano doesn't fast forward with the books so you have to manually fast forward or rewind from the Ipod itself. I purchased a second one refurbished on ebay for 32.00...works great and could never tell the difference between the two! It's the best product in the market. It sounds very good and with the remote control it's so easy to operate. Too practical to carry when you travel. In a few words: buy it you don't regret it
