Digital camera reviews of JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black)

Digital camera Review: A great product, but even better they have fantastic customer support
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought a set of JBuds a few months back, they sound great
and have been able to put up with all the abuse I put them
through.. The other day, I managed to loose one of the silicon
tips. So I contacted JLabs customer support to inquire about
purchasing new tips.. The support person at JLabs replied
promptly and provided an amazingly good customer support
experience.

Digital camera Review: A great value.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have gone through many pairs of the the Sony MDR-ex type earbuds and inevitably the right ear bud would go out. The Sony's were costing me approx. $30 bucks a pop. When the earbuds were not going out then the coating on the wires was disintegrating exposing the bare wire.

One day I was at a local chain drugstore and and saw the razor blades that I buy came with a free pair of earbuds. Since I refused to shell out any more money to Sony or anyone else for these delicate items I bought the blades to get the free earbuds. I was suprised that the sound was better than the Sony's and I even had to reduce the volume because they had a higher sound output. I review house music mixes on my minidisc player that I have done while walking around doing errands so the buds I use have to have decent bass output and these do. I did a little research and found out these were JBuds. I couldn't believe a free set of buds sounded better than the Sony's. Not only did they sound better they outlasted every set of Sony's I ever owned. In fact they lasted almost a year. The eventually gave up the ghost as the plastic on the wires became brittle and started to crack and then the wires broke at the connector jack.

I just bought a new pair from Amazon and I am very, very pleased. In fact I am listening to my music now as I type this review. Oh joy! They are comfortable and light.

One issue I have with them is that you have to separate the buds by pulling them apart to get the fit you want. This is why I gave 4 stars and not 5. I also wish that the wire was a bit more sturdy, but the last pair did last a long time. At the price they sell for I easily save money over buying Sony earbuds and I am not buying three pairs a year anymore.

Digital camera Review: A little misleading about iPhone support (2G)
Summary: 3 Stars

My 2G iPhone has slowly turned into my primary mp3 player as I walk to and fro classes. I wanted a pair of rubber earbuds after my sony ones started crackling. At $10 I thought, 'what have i got to lose?'

Pros: comfortable to wear for extended periods (I wear them about 4-5 hours a day and sometimes to sleep), the sound is decent (the bass is a tad on the weak side)

Cons: It doesn't fit as well as my other "higher tier" ear buds. This for me means less sound insulation for both ends (people would never notice that I was blasting music with my sony's)

my *major* gripe with this product is that it's advertised to work with iPhones. This is true *if* you have a 3.5mm adaptor for the 2G iphone. bummer.

At this price, I'd say this is an excellent deal for a casual pair of ear buds

Digital camera Review: A lot better than iPods standard buds
Summary: 4 Stars

While the fit is great for these, the sound is still not amazing. But for $20 I can't complain too much.

One complaint is that the actual insert slips too easily out of my iPod. But I've gotten used to it I guess. But if you were a runner or walker, it might get annoying.

Digital camera Review: A non-audiophile review - comfortable sound isolating ear buds!
Summary: 4 Stars

Update 12/20/07: I have used these ear buds for 4 months now and still no problems. They are used about five hours per day five days per week.

I am not an audiophile. So don't read this review for a professional sound review of these ear buds. I know nothing about ear bud "burn in" and if these ear buds benefit from a burn in period, or the percent of bass versus treble sounds you are getting.

I am, however, a 5 hour per day iPod Nano 2nd Gen user who wanted a slight upgrade from the standard Apple buds, and these headphones deliver that, in my opinion. I have used the black Jbuds for one month now.

PROS:
1. Sound isolation: the rubber ear pieces act like pretty good ear plugs and, therefore, channel all the music right into your ears. I can operate my iPod at a lower volume and get as much sound channeled into my ears versus the old earbuds. Plus I can run the lawn mower and not have to blast the music as loud to hear the music over the lawn mower noise.

2. Versatile: three different size rubber ear pieces to help find a comfortable fit.

3. Comfortable and small: the ear buds are smaller than I expected, and light and comfortable. I can wear them for hours without getting pain in my ears from being "stretched" open, as happened with other ear buds I have tried.

4. Good bass sound: I prefer heavier bass versus treble, and these seem to tilt toward the bass side.

CONS:
1. Left versus right: how much more would it cost JLabs to put a tiny white or red stripe around the cord where it meets one of the ear buds to differentiate right or left? I got tired of looking for the small L or R printed on the buds and put a dab of white-out on the right hand cord where it joins the bud. Now I can look down and quickly pick the correct bud for left or right!

2. Cord tangles easily. Other headphones I have owned have more spring in the cord to help prevent tangling. If you put these in your pocket they get tangled about 50% of the time, in my experience.

I would recommend these ear buds for someone looking for a reasonably priced upgrade from ear buds that ship standard with MP3 players. I've owned a Dell Pocket DJ, SanDisk Sansa M230, and iPod Nano, and in each case the JBuds are a definite upgrade for me.
