Digital camera reviews of JVC HA-FX300B In-Ear Headphones (Black)Digital camera Review: GOOD HEADPHONES BUT THE JVC HAFX-66 SOUND JUST AS GOOD FOR LESS Summary: 4 Stars
Don't get me wrong. These JVC headphones sound EXCELLENT and are very comfortable. The foam earbuds are awesome and they do NOT fall out of my ear when I run and workout. The bass response is punchy and deep, and the highs are crystal clear. With all in-ear type headphones, how the earbuds fit in your ear makes up about 75% of the sound quality. HOWEVER, so too do the much more affordable JVC HAFX-66 model. In fact, owning both, I cannot tell a difference between the sound quality. Also, I like the design of the less expensive HAFX-66 because the cord on each earbud faces DOWN, as opposed to the HA-FX300B which faces upward, requiring you to loop the cord behind your ear -- I find this appealing at all. Thus, when the GREAT sound quality is the same between the two models, yet the design and price is better with the less expensive, HAFX-66 model, this is a rare instance where a more expensive model from the same manufacturer does not translate into a superior product. I suppose this is more of a review or recommendation for the HAFX-66 rather than the HAFX300. I don't want to say something like "at this price point, you can't get better sound than the HAFX-66s," because even at $100.00, I would strongly recommended the cheaper HAFX66 over the HAFX300s.
Digital camera Review: Good headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these for my husband after reading a review online at Consumer Reports. These were rated very highly but they were a little less expensive that some others with great ratings. My husband is a real headphone snob and he loves them.
Digital camera Review: Great Sound, Inconvenient Use Summary: 4 Stars
Agree with some other reviews that the sound is great once you get them in the right place, pushed flush up against your ear in order to maximize the bass. It takes a bit of time to put them in and adjust the cords around your ears, making it tough to pull them in and out, i.e. if you're at the gym and want to talk to someone. It's important to pull the cords back together up under your chin so the cords don't pull on your ears--and yes, the cord is a bit short if you like putting your iPod in your pocket to run etc., but still ok.
One caveat about the sound is the somewhat lower efficiency of the earbuds, meaning that with my iPod Classic, I had plenty of volume headroom, but when I switched to the 5th Generation iPod Nano, I had to nearly max the sound out for a comfortable volume--and I don't listen to things very loudly.
A practical reality: anything that is pushed down your ear is going to come back with some earwax--so just be prepared with a Qtip and perhaps some rubbing alcohol and you're good to go.
Digital camera Review: Nice headphones, two drawbacks Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased these headphones as I have previously owned Denon AH-C551K In-Ear Headphone and Sony MDR-EX71SL Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones (Black), but I lost the first, and my cat chewed the second. I wanted a pair of headphones that were around or under the fifty dollar mark, and came with a case so I could protect them from my dear cat, but not so expensive that if they do get destroyed, I can afford to replace them. I have had issues before with certain in-ear headphone just not staying seated well. The Denon's were average, the sony's were better, but the Sony's sound quality was disappointing. I have found so far that these headphones have nice sound quality. The nice thing is that the over the ear chord approach tends to keep them in place better than simple Y-chord ones. The down side is that they are a bit fiddly to place in your ear, though I suppose that is something one may get used to. The other problem with this product is that it doesn't come with a chord extension apparently, and the chord is a rather short, so it will definitely not reach from you to the back of your computer. The chord construction itself however is very nice, it's well shielded and durable looking. The product also seems well constructed, and the design well thought out. They sit nicely in my ear opening and are quite comfortable, after awhile I quite forget they are there. I think the benefits far outweigh the drawback, and I would definitely recommend these.
Digital camera Review: Not a balanced sound Summary: 1 Stars
I have owned a couple mid range priced earbuds and these are by far the most disappointing I have come across in terms of sound quality. Though they are aesthetically pleasing and fairly ergonomic in that they are comfortable in my ear and do not become dislodged, the sound quality is a mess. With such a large range I expected a more prevalent bass and clearer highs, all I heard was an almost painful amplification of the mids and some highs. I cannot even wear them anymore because the sound is so harsh and I am planning on returning them. I cannot think of a specific reason to get a pair of earbuds like this, I highly recommend staying away from this product.
