The JVC JXS111 can be a perfect device depending on your needs. There is no fancy electronics in av selector, it simply has 2 outputs: 1 component video (Red, Blue, Green) and 1 composite/S-video (Yellow). Both the component and composite video outputs have their own separate RCA (White, Red) output. There is no included remote if you want to switch the av source, but I bought it for this reason because it also means it doesn't require an external power source and doesn't have unnecessary components that can go bad (transformer, voltage regulator, diodes, etc...). It is simply a passive switching device. That being said, it has 3 component inputs and 2 composite/S-video inputs. One of the composite inputs is located on the front of the unit, the rest of the inputs are on the back.
I bought this because I collect old electronic devices and my old television only had 1 S-video and 1 component source. I was able to hook up 5 devices to this box and now only have to push a button to use them rather than unplugging and replugging wires. This device has a very simple purpose, but does it extremely well. I applaud JVC (Victor) for not adding unnecessary crap that would have only driven up the cost of the device and not provided any value.
I would just like to clarify one thing. This is not an active electronic device. It will not convert your composite/S-video signal to component. This would require more circuitry (DSP or microcontroller) and a power source. Like I said earlier, it has one component output and one composite. If you are inputting a composite signal, it will output through the composite output. Same goes for component, it will not convert back and forth.
My only complaint is that there is no way to bridge the audio output from the 2 channels, but this request would simply be ludicrus unless JVC started customizing devices for each individual customer.
