There's nothing really high-tech about this, yet it can be used with very high-tech equipment to do what is so frequently needed - hold it in place. Instructions could be a bit more clear, but if you take your time with them and look carefully at the device, it will become apparent how to change bases for various situations, etc. Would this be appropriate in a fancy limo? Probably not. It's not sophisticated looking at all. But it's highly functional, NOT unattractive, and an inexpensive way to take care of a lot of functions that often we end up buying single-function items for. This has a screw-in camera base so it can be used as a mini-tripod, and can also hold all sorts of other devices.
I use 4 stars for very good products, and simply reserve my use of 5 stars for the very best. The 4 star rating on this is in no way an indication it's not a desirable and functional product.
It looks like this product will probably be sturdy enough to hold up for quite a while. The only possible issue I see with it is I don't yet know how long the vacuum base will hold a cell phone (or whatever else is placed in it), and there's no way to know how long the adhesive base will last. But I suspect the adhesive could be replaced relatively easily even if it does dry out or lose adhesion over time. The bases can be changed quickly and easily.
A couple of things to note: make sure you have a place to store this as I can foresee the interchangeable bases getting lost when they're not on the device. Also, I tried it recently as a tripod for my Nikon D70 and a relatively short and light telephoto lens. It was just barely a weight this could handle. I have since learned there is a heavier duty version that probably would work better than this - though I knew it might not work with the relatively large SLR camera. For a light little point-and-shoot camera with a screw base, it should be outstanding. Combine it with the self-timer or get a remote control "clicker," and you can get in your own pictures with the rest of the family.
