I added posts (available in camera stores) to these gorilla pods and used them to hook pro strobes to temporary walls at a trade show. The Joby GP3 works great with SLR bodies with light lens attached to it. Although the GP3 definitely is not a real tripod replacement, it can be extremely handy when you're trying to pack a light load. I've used it with a d300 w/ plastic lens, such as the 50mm, 60mm, and 18-55mm lens. However, if you're planning on putting pro level lens that weigh a good pound or two, then you'll want to look elsewhere. I've tried attaching my D300 w/ 24-70 nikkor and the legs did not hold up. Overall, the GP3 is an innovative product that's light, unobtrusive, and very handy if used with the right equipment. I would not recommend using any pro zoom lens with the GP3, because the legs simply are not strong enough to hold up. Digital camera Review: Great for travel

Bought this before going on a trip to Germany hoping it would be stable enough for my 30D paired with a 70-200 2.8L IS lens. Setting it up as a tripod is definitely not enough to support the weight (although I assumed it wouldn't); the legs would buckle and the whole thing would collapse. However, when secured to the top of a railing, the head held up just fine. With all the other lens I have the pod works amazingly well; I even figured out how to set it up vertically to get some interesting ground shots. I own Canon 30D and Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS Lens so I decided to buy GP3 (slr zoom) version of this pod. Works better than I expected... this pod is stable enough to handle my camera (30D with my lens weight is about 1,4 Kg), I'm taking it often with me, good for taking pictures in nature without need to take my regular tripod.
Maybe it works also as it's shown at pictures, like mounted on tree or telephone post, but I love my 30D tooooo much to try it ;)

So I've had my tripod for 3 days and it has completely fallen to pieces.
One of the little rubber feet came off the day I bought it, and today one of the arms fell off. There is no reattaching it, the wire inside actually broke. Great.
I could've made a better product with a pack of chewing gum and a rubber band.
