Digital camera reviews of Kensington 33169 Digital FM Radio and Transmitter for iPodsDigital camera Review: Good performance Summary: 4 Stars
This came as a package deal for the iPod video 80GB and was an awesome offer from Amazon.
I have mixed feelings on this product. It works well for what it was advertized for (ie. good sensitivity, quick scan, etc..) but the controls
(ie. buttons) were a little clumpsy and hard to use. The display was hard to read and the light distribution was not even (ie. bright on left side and dark on right side). Also, the connector to the iPod does not have a locking mechanism (like the USB cable that comes with the iPod). The good side is it makes insertion and removal easy. The bad side is it can slide out when not intended due to the unit potentially being moved around. I'd rather see a locking connector. Dimension-wise I would have love to see the size expanded to fit the width of the iPod rather than the way it is (ie. shorter on both sides).
Would I pay $50 for this unit? Probably not but since it came "free" with the iPod it was a good deal. The unit does work very well.
Digital camera Review: Good product for the price Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good product, allowing for both transmission and reception. In reception mode it's essentially using the I-pod as a battery pack. In transmit mode you need to be sure you have an FM station that is totally clear (otherwise unoccupied), and be specific about placement in the car. Our antenna is in our rear window, so we have some problems putting it in the front seat storage area. Overall a good buy.
Digital camera Review: Good product for the right price. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this product with a mail in rebate for an overall cost of -$[...] with free shipping. I have used other FM transmitters before and this is not the best one on the market, but you get what you pay for. It will definatly do its job and as long as the station is completly static the sound will be clear when the ipod is transmitting to that station. I do like the digital display and the easy to operate buttons. It may be the nature of FM transmitters but it seemed to me that the sound quality of this transmitter was less the others I have used.
Digital camera Review: Great Little Device in Irresponsible Packaging Summary: 4 Stars
The Kensington 33169 transmitter performs just as well as the promotional materials promise, and it could not be easier to use. It will turn your iPod into a portable stereo for you and your companions, making it well worth the very affordable price. I would have rated this item at 5 stars, but I was bothered by the over-packaging; the device is sealed in a form-fitting plastic caccoon, top and bottom, inside a box that is at least eight times bigger than the device itself, and the box is shrink-wrapped in more plastic! Terribly wasteful packaging shows an utter lack of environmental ethics, so the folks at Kensington have to take a hit for that.
Digital camera Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
Perfect for use in my car. It works well with my old 1976 buick dial radio too.
It was a little frustrating at first to tune it to a station until I realized that it takes 5-6 seconds to start transmitting.
