Digital camera reviews of Kensington 72117 PocketMouse Pro Wireless Compact Travel USB Mouse (PC/Mac)

Digital camera Review: Kensington Drivers
Summary: 3 Stars

I have a new Fujitsu Laptop running XP Professional.

I installed the Mouse on my Laptop without any problems. The issues started when I loaded the CD with the Kensington drivers and options. I could not leave well enough alone.
It worked at first, until I put my computer into stand-by and then brought it back up to normal run state. Both the on-board mouse and the wireless Kensington would not function. After a few tries I was forced to uninstall the Kensington Software and under device manager, remove the mouse drives. It's always a challenge to maneuver through Windows without a mouse.
After reboot the Laptop reinstalled its drivers and now, all is well.

Digital camera Review: Kensington Pocketmouse Pro Wireless
Summary: 4 Stars

this was a good buy...kind of. until i installed the software from the kensington site, the mouse could only click. also, the mouse feels flimsy...nothing like my old logitech wireless...the optical keeps screwing up, because the mouse, if i am moving it up the screen, will suddenly go the opposite direction...really annoying while playing fps games on my presario x1000...like you are sniping some guy and the mouse flips out...so this is good for a business, awful for gaming

Digital camera Review: Make sure you buy the service contract with this
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had two of the PocketMouse Pro Wireless Mouse. I also did not install the driver software as it caused a software conflictl. The first one I owned, the cover that holds the USB device broke and Kensington replaced it. On the second one, the scroll wheel broke in less than a year and I will not get another one. I will try another brand.

Digital camera Review: Needs own drivers; Short battery life
Summary: 3 Stars

Ergonomics are fine. Weight/shape/optical are fine. I got this mouse to use at work on a daily basis. My workplace tech people "installed" it for me. I was having a lot of trouble with the mouse until I figured out they had not installed the driver specific to the mouse; once I got the correct driver, the mouse has been functioning as expected (except for the horizontal scroll always coming on). I do store the usb port inside the mouse each day when i leave for the evening so that the battery life can be conserved. Despite these efforts, the batteries only last me about a week or so. While this may be fine for travel use, it is not fine for everyday use. I am going to have to replace it with another mouse.

Digital camera Review: Never again - battery hog, cheaply made
Summary: 1 Stars

Looks good. Feels decent. Works well.... WHEN IT WORKS.
1. The USB dongle you plug in is too thick, so you can't use your second USB port on many laptops. I actually used a large flat file to file down the sides of the part that plugs in so I could use my 2nd USB port again. This alone makes this thing JUNK. What were they thinking?

2. Massive battery hog. I'm lucky if this thing can go a week on one set of AAA batteries. There is no off switch. It turns off when you unplug the dongle from your laptop and put it inside the mouse via a small door. Nice idea. But if you use your computer on your desk every day, you don't want to be unplugging the dongle every day because...

3. The dongle is a cheap piece of crap. After a few months, it has started acting up. It have to swivel it around to get it to work again. So the rotating contact mechanism must be going, and it isn't making reliable contact any more.

4. Randomly goes into "stall" mode where it jerks and won't respond. This mostly happens when the machine is busy (but it's a 2.4 GHz P4, and it isn't running above, say, 50% CPU.

All in all, NEVER AGAIN.
