Digital camera reviews of Kensington Battery Pack and Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3GDigital camera Review: Fantastic device Summary: 5 StarsAs much as I enjoy my iPhone (perhaps because...), the battery life is not very good. This little device allows you to top up during the day. It's unobtrusive, and is actually useful for more than just the iPhone: it can be used to charge any device that charges via a USB cable, a bluetooth headset for example. I fly a lot for work, and this allows me to watch videos, read Kindle books, etc., all without running out of juice -- even on intercontinental flights.
I decided to go with an external battery (as opposed to an integrated case with battery). I really didn't want to bulk up the phone itself, and just toss the external battery in my bag.
Charging the battery itself takes a little longer than you'd like (think overnight, not thirty minutes), but lasts for two to three "top-ups." The device is simplicity itself. There's one USB port for input, and one for output. It'll work with any USB charger for input, and any USB device for output.
Digital camera Review: Call it unreliable Summary: 2 StarsThe unit has worked well for the two months I have owned it, although I only charged it half a dozen times, and in turn charged my Kindle, Blackberry, or iPod Touch only 2-3 times each. Now it is completely dead, with no warning. For a product one would naturally use only in semi-urgent situations, such as midway on a long flight, such unreliability is unacceptable. I will try to get a refund so that I can buy a product that lives up to its promise.
Digital camera Review: Love it!!! Summary: 5 StarsNo need for instructions - very easy to use and charges the iPhone 2+ times before it runs out of juice. Highly recommend this if you're traveling and don't have access to an outlet...
Digital camera Review: Quick charge + Power Anywhere! iPhone 3G OS 3.0 Summary: 5 StarsI purchased this charger/battery for my iphone because I'll be flying to California in a few days and wanted to ensure I could leave my laptop and book and whatever else I usually bring on plane trips with me at home. So I spent the last few days loading my iphone up with movies and games and plan on bringing that and this battery pack with me as it should last the entire day with full, non-stop use!
So far I have tested out the battery pack to make sure it works how I want it. First off it's important to say that it is iPhone 3G compatible! In other words it doesn't say it's not a recognized charging device like some old docks I have. This battery is compatible with the iPhone 3G running 3.0.
Second, when it arrived the battery was nearly dead which I expected. I charged it using the included wall charger and it took approx 3 hours to show all lights on it. I unplugged it and kept it with me and about 4:00pm the next day my phone was running low on power so I plugged the battery pack in. Within an hour my iphone was nearly 100% charged and only 2 of the 5 lights on the battery were off. I continued using the phone with the battery pack disconnected and sometime overnight my iphone ran out of juice and turned itself off. I woke up and immediatly plugged the battery pack in and within another hour the phone was half charged but the battery pack was out of juice. This is probably beause I didn't charge the battery pack as it was recommended when I got it. :( But the battery did fully charge my phone twice and it worked very nicely to get my phone back up and running without having to plug the phone into a wall outlet.
I am not charging the bettery pack as instructed in the directions and will be using it to watch video on my iphone very heavy this week to see how long I can actually use it to watch video before it deplets the battery on the phone and the pack.
It is important to note because I missed this, the estimation of 21 hours of video playback is on the ipod nano! So the amount of battery for the iphone will be less as it is a bigger screen and utilizes more power, I imagine it will be 7-10 hours of video on the iphone rather then the 21 for the nano.
Regardless of this oversight, I am happy with the battery back so far.
Digital camera Review: Exactly what i needed to supplement the iPod's limitations! Summary: 5 StarsMy biggest gripe with my iPod was the battery life. This product easily triples the charge of my iPod...now i can actually use it as it was designed....for watching movies on long plane rides. I am very happy with the purchase. This product is amazing. I was expecting something twice the size of what i received. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking to significantly extend the battery lifespan of their iPod!
