I also have the original itrip but its strating to wear due to age (pops and clicks when ever it is touched), this is alot better. It is considerably louder and doesn't use the headphone jack like the iTrip. It also doesn't use the ipod volume control.
But this is if it works on your iPod. It works on my 3rd Gen. iPod (Firewire) but not on my wife's ipod nano. This is the opposite of a couple of online reviews I've read.
It charges the nano, and the transmitter seems to be "working ", sending out dead air (you don't hear channel static), but does not send the signal from the nano.
My response from the Kensington Tech Support was quick but brief. They just told me to return it to where I bought it if it was within the return period, and gave no other info. I did so, Amazon's return policy rocks by the way. The ship out the new one immediately. (you get charged for it if you don't return the broken one in 30 days)
So if I never knew about the ipod nanos problems it would get a 5. I'm going to keep it to replace my itrip and will probably order a itip auto for my wife's nano.
