Digital camera reviews of Kensington K33902US Bluetooth USB Micro Adapter

Digital camera Review: Nice adapter - challenging setup
Summary: 3 Stars

So far this adapter works pretty well with my windows 7 64-Bit computer. It has a nice subtle design and is very small. The only problem was the installation.

I initially tried the Toshiba Bluetooth stack on the CD, but it caused all sorts of problems. After uninstalling, letting win 7 automatically install drivers, and considerable tinkering, I finally got it to work. It's been okay ever since.

Ok device, not an easy install. Almost returned it.

Digital camera Review: Not Mac-compatible
Summary: 3 Stars

To their credit, Kensington does not claim Mac compatibility for this Bluetooth adapter. Somehow I missed that fact when I bought it, or I just assumed that any Bluetooth USB adapter would be Mac-compatible in 2011. I can confirm that this one does not work with OS X 10.6.6, at least on my Mac. It DOES work well on the same machine when it's running Windows 7 SP1.

Digital camera Review: Not very satisfied with overall quality
Summary: 3 Stars

Pros: Small, convenient for laptop bag
Cons: Very low range, not compatible with headset

I bought the Insignia bluetooth headphones for work, but needed to buy another adapter for my home.
On the plus side, the adapter is small so you don't need to remove it from your laptop when taking it in and out of your laptop bag.

While the adapter does transmit sound to the headphones just fine, none of the buttons on the headphones work correctly. For example, let's say I'm playing music using ITunes. If I try to pause the music I'm listening to by pushing the pause button on my headphones, suddenly Windows Media Player opens. On the other hand, if I'm using the adapter that came with the headphones, it does in fact pause ITunes.

Albeit there's nothing technically wrong, the range on this product is not the de facto range of 10M for most bluetooth devices. I can only get about 15 feet. The fact that the range is not advertised should serve as a clue to the consumer that its range is sub par.

Digital camera Review: Not working with headset
Summary: 3 Stars

This did not work as I expected with by bluetooth headset and Cisco softphone. The audio would break up about every 15 seconds and the other person on the other end could not make out what I was saying. I tested with my voicemail and it was very unacceptable. I tried in all different configurations.

Digital camera Review: OK, but difficult to setup.
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this since I could not get the bluetooth on my Apple MacBook Pro to work with Windows Vista (all other drivers seem to work fine except that one). Had to download drivers (3-in CD would not work in slot-load drive) and after several failed attempts to install gave up. THEN I tried installing off the CD-ROM in my Dell Inspirom 1520 with Windows XP Home (did not get the Bluetooth pre-installed). I had to install three times before it finally worked. Once installed it seems to work great, even got my Wiimote to pair with it, but probably talking about 2-3 hours total trying to install this and on 2 diffent machines before it finally worked. Like the small size, disliked having to repeatedly "play" with the thing to get it to work.
