Digital camera reviews of Kensington K33902US Bluetooth USB Micro Adapter

Digital camera Review: Eh - works but.....
Summary: 3 Stars

I owned a large sized kensington blue tooth dongle, but smash it against a wall while toting my laptop. So I figured I'd get a low profile and since this was kensington too, I figured yay same feature set....NOPE! I dont seem to have the ability to do FTP with my cell phone like I did before with the larger size. Now it is possible that it could be my cell phone as it is also new, but clearly send/receive is supported so this is related to the software in my opinion. FTP should at the very least be mimicked, but isnt so I cannot transfer multiple files easily, but rather one at a time. Ok just tried it with my old cell phone. Nope, it doesnt seem to support FTP transfer. Oh and it says it supports personal area network, but not sure that it does. Says it connects to my old cell in that way and then check status and it is disconnected.

What is it that these low profile dont support network access services like their larger brethern? Bummer!

Digital camera Review: Excellent Adapter
Summary: 5 Stars

This adapter worked well with my Windows Vista PC. I did not use the software included in the box, I used the windows program to set the devise up and pair it with my other devise. I did this based on the reviews I read of the product. It took less than 5 min to set up and worked fine.

Digital camera Review: Excellent- Does it's job- glad I found it
Summary: 5 Stars

I had previously bought a CSR dongle which was a 'throw in' with a cheap Terax bluetooth mouse I bought on EBay. The 'throw in' should have been 'thrown out'. Ha. I wound up returning this combo as it performed inconsistently despite trying different drivers.

Now this Kensington Dongle is a winner. Despite several reviews I read warning about Win 7 incompatibility it (at least now) included a CD containing Toshiba Bluetooth Stack Version 7.00.05. Despite a lengthy install on my 5 and 1/2 year-old Dell Inspiron B130 now running Windows 7 Home Premium, it otherwise performs great. There are no driver warnings of any kind. I also don't have any yellow exclamation marks in Control Panel as I did with BlueSoleil.

I paired it with a Dell PU705 Bluetooth Laser Mouse (sent the Terax one back) and my Verizon Wireless Samsung Reality (SCH-U820). The Toshiba stack gives you much more functionality than the Windows 7 stack and outperformed the Bluesoleil software I had previously tried. I actually like the software. File transfers to and from my phone are much faster than BlueSoleil. Windows 7 didn't allow me to transfer files from my phone to the computer. Toshiba's software does.

The bluetooth functionality of the computer using this dongle now compares similarly to my newer Dell XPS 1640 laptop which has a built-in bluetooth card. In fact, I have the same mouse with the XPS computer with the built-in bluetooth and they perform identically.

Digital camera Review: Flawless
Summary: 5 Stars

This device works as advertised for my purpose, which is to connect my Samsung Hue via BitPim. I've used the adapter on two systems (both running XP SP3), and it works flawlessly, installing the native XP drivers (no need to install the much more resource-intensive application that ships with the adapter). No hassle at all: switch on the Hue's Bluetooth discovery mode, switch the PC Connection setting to Bluetooth, and the devices communicate without a problem. Then, when you're not using it, just disable the radio in the device manager. In neither case (on my desktop nor laptop) did the native XP Bluetooth drivers consume unreasonable resources. It just works.

Digital camera Review: Good Bluetooth for Linux Mint/Ubuntu Karmic
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a little nervous about this, since Bluetooth support in Linux is sketchy. My goal here was to be able to use Skype and other conferencing/SIP solutions with my Bluetooth headset, and still be paired with my phone. I was stoked to find that this little thing worked out-of-box with Linux Mint Helena (based on Ubuntu 9.10), no driver install necessary, no mucking about on the command line - it Just Worked. I very quickly paired my headset, switched audio input/outputs, tested Skype and found that to my relief everything works great.
