Digital camera reviews of Kingston 19-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-HS219/1Digital camera Review: Awesome Product Summary: 5 Stars
I found this product extremely useful for transferring pictures from my mini-SD phone card to my computer. It sucks when your phone breaks and you lose all your pictures, so I purchased a mini-SD card really cheaply and then got this! It is sleek, easy to use, and works well!
Digital camera Review: Awesome little device Summary: 5 Stars
So far it has worked perfectly with an SD card and a CF card. I like the thought that went in to the product. The ports are recessed until you need them and it came with a three foot USB to USB extension so it should fit anywhere.
I also downloaded a utility that now provides little graphics to go along with each of the drives. But the drives (on Vista) come up no problem all 4 of them. Had no problem loading the drivers on to my computer and my PS3 recognizes it and lets me transfer data again no problems. Fast tranfer rate for both cards. Great useful little gadget, highly recommend.
Digital camera Review: Awesome little thing!! Summary: 5 Stars
This card reader is the handiest little gadget I have ever bought for reading and transferring files to a variety of different memory cards. I would buy it again, that's for sure.
Digital camera Review: Bang-per-buck one of the cheapest improvements for loading images Summary: 5 Stars
I love this thing, got it a few weeks ago after being someone who thought it was a dumb idea..my usb cable did a decent enough job... My photo professor recommended a card reader when I could easily just upload to my comp via usb cord and then bring my photos into class on a usb drive. I was definitely wrong about that.
First off, using the usb cord drains your cameras battery(who wants to charge the battery more often?they drain quick enough already!), card readers are powered by the usb cord via your computer. Also, I've had the occasion where my battery is low and I'm uploading a ton of shots and my battery in my camera dies...That's terrible for your card and you could very well lose some images or corrupt the data.
Compared to the usb cable, most readers will show you an amazing difference in upload speed. I can upload 4 gb of photos in minutes rather than hours...
and if you do have that many photos to upload, guess what I do? I've got a 2nd card that I pop in my camera and I'm off shooting something else while my card reader is at home uploading my shots. USB cables tie your camera down and slowly sucks your battery dry while you anxiously wait for your photos to upload...yawn...
Alright, onto this specific item. This reader is pretty fast(I haven't compared it to anything but a usb cord, and it whomps that), pretty compact, and reliable. It comes with a long usb cord but I haven't found the need for it, there's a tiny usb cord that's already attached and that's a good enough length for uploading my shots(I don't need my card reader to be 5 feet away from my computer haha). I use this simply for the CF card slot and it does work with newer cards, I use the sandisk 4gb extreme iii's.
It's cheap, it improves your upload speeds by a ton, and it doesn't tie your camera up. So buy it. Some people do go for firewire uploading(which is INSANE fast) but those systems are hundreds of dollars. I find this to be a perfectly fine, cheap solution.
Digital camera Review: Be Careful - Test the Fit of Your Memory Cards Before Opening Package Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this product because my previous card reader, which I used to download images from my digital camera, failed suddenly. I was impressed by the 19-in-1 capability and price. The Kingston arrived. I unpacked the reader, requiring me to slit the hard plastic package. I plugged in the device, took my camera's memory card in hand, and - the card doesn't fit any of the slots! Slots are either too big or too small.
Company send a cheery email thanking me for purchasing the Kingston. I replied the device did not fit my memory card. Support sent email advising me to contact company for return and refund information. I did so, filling out the online form. Company replied that because I had opened the package, a refund was not possible. Company has not revealed how I was to test the fit of my memory card without opening the package. :-(
