Digital camera Review: A Sweet Little Camera--But Buy A Memory Stick!

I wanted a very portable, easy-to-use, basic camera for family use, and this fits the bill perfectly. Picture quality is very good (high density is available) and focus is fine. I like the fact that you can switch from "landscape" mode (most uses -- a meter or more away) to "macro" mode (for ultra close-ups just inches away). My biggest concern was how my less-than-steady hand would affect jumpiness, but it's no worry at all.
What I failed to recognize when I bought the camera was that it really can't be used without a memory card; internal memory gives you maybe 20 seconds of video at the lowest resolution. Memory cards are anywhere from off-brand cheap to high-end expensive. After reading reviews, I decided on the moderately priced Kodak brand and went for the 8 MB card ($39.95 + free shipping at HSN as of Nov 09). You'll also want to buy a case, since the lens has no cap.
The biggest disappointment is the zoom (digital not optical), which is very jumpy. I've read online that Kodak has a firmware update that you can download to resolve this problem, however. Another thing to consider: apparently XP has a problem reading the 8 MB memory card. But there's a download on the Microsoft site to fix this (KB934428). I haven't done either of these yet, but plan to do so.

Does the aqua-colored version do tricks or something? Where do they justify raising the price of the aqua one from $179 to $239 here on Amazon??? Pay no attention to my rating, that's for pricing only as I HAD to give a rating to make a comment. We had purchased a camcorder which we hardly used many years ago. Now we won't go anywhere without our Zi8. We love that we can view it on the television, its ease of use, its lightweight and the fact that it replaces both our camera and camcorder. We made this purchase to take videos of my mother-in-law (now 95) and have accumulated many memories which we'll be able to enjoy in the future. She loves viewing herself on the television. You will not regret this purchase and will be amazed at how much use you get from it. There is obviously a major difference from viewing a photo as opposed to a video. My only suggestion is that you purchase the memory card with your purchase because the Zi8 does not have enough memory to enable you to use it right away.Digital camera Review: Camera A+ / Kodak Support F

Camera takes wonderful video for the price. However, while on vacation, I removed the camera from my jacket pocket to find the protective lens cover had come off. After several minutes of fiddling with it, I got it to snap back into place, but it continued to come off with the slightest bump. Later on the camera developed a problem with spotting in the video and photos. After an hour or more dealing with customer service, I was told to send my camera in for repair, which I did. About 2 weeks later, I received the camera back, but it still had the same problem. Again I was told to return it and this time I was sent a refurbished unit. Unfortunately, they sent the wrong type of battery with it, so they had to send a new battery separately. The refurb works, but I was offered nothing for my time and frustration and was without a working camera for over 1 month. Compared to my experiences with other companies, Kodak ranks very poor. I love this little video camera. It is ewasy to use. Takes great footage that looks great and easy to carry around. This video camera has great great resolution and is perfect for those family events. Because it is so easy to use, I have started to capture quit a bit and enjoy putting together brief clips for family and friends.
