I got this flip-style camera because my other one did not have an external microphone port. I love this one, though I have to sit down and figure out all the ways to use it. I got a Sony mike, as I felt I had to shout at my other camera in order to be heard and with this camera, I can speak in my natural voice. I like the picture quality and the fact that it's HD. I have only done 4-5 videos with this camera and shall do many more, so perhaps my review will be updated. Much prefer it to my other flip-style camera. I purchased my Zi8 through Amazon 10 days ago (over
the flip ultra hd) and absolutely LOVE it.
The quality and convenience factor is so high, it's replaced
both my $900.00 Canon HD Camcorder, and my old flip video cam.
Here's what I like about the Zi8:
#1: External Mic Jack -- YES!!! By adding a low-cost external
mic, I now have AMAZING sound on my videos. (External mics ALWAYS beat
camcorder's in-camera mics for quality). For just 24 bucks, I added a:
Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone off Amazon's site.
#2: Internal Mic is FAIR - no whine or noise, they've fixed that. It's
about the same as any internal mic as far as quality goes... OK,
but not great.
#3: Facial Recognition: this works incredibly well - focus locks
right on, and stays locked on... I'm impressed!
#4: Li-Ion Rechargeable Battery - this thing really lasts... I bought a
2nd one, but probably should've saved my money.
#5: The HD & Widescreen on the Zi8 is really impressive. For the web, I'm
shooting mostly 720p - and VERY happy with the results. The quality
is really crisp.
#6: Works PERFECTLY with my MAC... just plug it in to the USB
port on my MacPro and I've got my video. Sweeet.
#7: Low Light Performance is very good, as is the image
stabilization.
I picked up the optional remote from Kodak. When I need to
video myself, I just tripod mount my Zi8, plug-in my ext mic,
and use the external remote to make my video segments -
works really great.
This is the pocket video cam I've been waiting for. The quality
of video the Zi8 puts out is fantastic, and I'm using iMovie to edit
it on my Mac.
Absolutely NO REGRETS - this is one great video cam.

Kodak has done it again!! I love my Easyshare camera, but was wanting an inexpensive camcorder for the kids school programs. This is above and beyond what I was expecting for this price. PLUS I discovered that it does still photos, which is a BIG bonus!! I have only had this product for 1 week, but I have ZERO regrets!
I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable, yet quality camcorder. HD is great and it did work w/our Bravia system excellently.

I bought this camera from Amazon, tested it once and took it with me on a four week trip. Used it half a dozen times and then it froze up. I cannot use it for anything. Reboorted, drained battery, tried every variable. Completely worthless and I did not have a video camera for my family trip or a still camera. Now Amazon will not take it back for full refund but I am sending the worthless junk back to them anyway to see what I can get as a refund. I bought it for the seeming attributes: external mike jack, still photos, and editable software. The Kodak-supplied software stinks! I wasted so much time trying to download the videos; unlike flip, which worked great. Getting the battery in and out is a major effort. It is shocking that a company of Kodak's stature would release such a piece of junk, to play catch up ball with Flip. I have an old Flip and never had a sinlge problem. I will never buy a Kodak mini-camcorder again. I don;t need this hassle, and nobody is paying me for the inconvenience. I love this little camera! The picture and sound quality are so far superior to my Flip camera it's not even funny. Waaaaay better. Very quick and easy to use, bright colors, sharp images, good sound. I use this for my business in a variety of ways and it's great.
Downsides? The zoom is awful...very jumpy with no way to control it. Also, battery life isn't great, so it would've been nice to include a charger that has prongs that would collapse to make it easier to carry around. But for well under $200.00 this camera is amazing!
