Digital camera reviews of LG BD 370 Network Blu-ray Disc Player

Digital camera Review: Best value for the money!
Summary: 5 Stars

Simply put, we LOVE this blu ray player! When our dvd player broke, my brother said we should look into a blu ray. I'm not too savvy with current technology, but with the holidays coming, a lot of blu ray players were competative in price with dvd players. I did a LOT of research, found this one, and had my brother (the tech guy) research it too. And he agreed, it was a great player for the price! So I bought it, mainly for the Netflix feature. We have NOT been disappointed! For the Netflix and Youtube features alone, the purchase was worth it. Not only is the player steamline with a clean, cool, facing, but it is user friendly, even for me! We signed up for Netflix, but when they didn't have Merry Christmas Madagascar, we were able to watch it -full screen- through the Youtube option. We have been able to watch old tv episodes we missed, visually explain to our son where "More Cowbell" comes from, and all kinds of cool stuff! BEYOND RECOMMENDED!

Digital camera Review: Better to step up to 390
Summary: 2 Stars

This seemed like it would be a great player for the money. My home network is set up right next to my entertainment center, so running an ethernet cable to it was no problem, no need for WiFi. Unfortunately, the interface was very sluggish. It was very cumbersome to use my own media files, and was disappointed to find that I couldn't watch home movies through this unit. The sluggish menu system was especially noticeable when I played SD DVDs. The upscaling on this unit was terrible - SD videos looked much better through a standard player and the only way to make the picture look decent was to go into the setup menu and downgrade signal output to 480i (yes, interlaced was actually better than progressive). This was very annoying when switching around between BD materials, SD videos and Netflix (which worked wonderfully, though also had its own output resolution setting to maximize quality). This awkwardness became too much and I had to upgrade to the BD 390. This unit patched into my Apple wireless network without a hitch and I now have one less cable running behind my entertainment center. The interface is lightning quick compared to the BD 370 and it's capable of connecting directly to my Mac to play my iTunes playlists, photos and even movies. Yes it was a bit more expensive, but overall a far superior machine and being more useful made it very much worth the expense.

Digital camera Review: Beware
Summary: 1 Stars

Bought this LG BD370 in November 2009. At the end of February 2010 it stopped reading disks of any kind. Worked with LG support to solve problem but they finally said the unit needed to be returned for repair. I was 5 days past my 90 day warranty so they want me to send the unit with a money order for $69 for them to repair the player. I am not going to spend $69 to repair this marginal player. I am looking for a new player, not LG, with a better warranty.

Digital camera Review: Beware - does not play videos over USB as it says it does!
Summary: 2 Stars

Box was cut when arrived. The item was NOT as described (not sure if this was the sellers fault or Amazon's or LGs.) The product description said it would play movies from the USB port or a home network and it DOES NOT DO THAT! This capability was the reason I bought this player and not to get it is fraudulent. The description is still wrong as it still says it will play movies from the USB port. The home networking portion seems to have been removed.

Digital camera Review: Blue Ray Was Great - Went through 3 machines and all did not play sound on Netflix
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought the machine. It was lightning fast to set up and load time was about 15 seconds to turn on and 20 seconds to load disks.
I was hoping this machine would work and really liked it. So much so that I exchanged the machine three times before giving up on it and paying an extra hundred to get the Sony brand.

WHY?

This current build has a big problems. It wont play anything unless it is HD Quality in Netflix streaming or CD's.
If a Netflix instant play movie had HD at the end of the title, it would play wonderfully (better picture quality that my Netflix Roku) but if it didn't include the HD at the end, then there was no sound at all. Same for any CD's I put in there. I called and they said maybe the update was corrupted and they were going to send me a disk. BUT, the disk wouldn't get to me till at least 14 days after my purchase, which then made it impossible for me to return the player to the store (only exchanges after that point are allowed). So I went and exchanged it three times and the same problem was happening over and over again. In reading online this is an off an on occurance, proabably a change in chip build. The update they were sending me would fix the problem for people who had the same problems with sound as myself. BUT to me, if their current download update didn't include the fixes for this machine as well, then I might be having the same problems once they put out another online update and I would be screwed.

So sadly I went and bought the Sony Player instead. Sony player was not as easy to set-up (for the online content it was more challenging) but it plays sound just great in streaming and lots of other internet channels.
