Digital camera reviews of LG BD 370 Network Blu-ray Disc PlayerDigital camera Review: COMPONENT OUTPUT DEAD ON ARRIVAL Summary: 1 Stars
Mostly the title tells it all except LG customer service kept getting any and all information numbers (serial, address, phone, etc wrong) Glad I did not purchase a TV from them.
Digital camera Review: Can't Beat it for the Price Summary: 5 Stars
This is the BD player for the budget! The Netflix & CinemaNow features are great (although I'd like more than just the Instant Queue access in NetFlix--but that'll come). It's got a slick design, is quiet, fast, and works great for both BD & DVD Upscaling. Other's have said the upscaling wasn't very good, but I've found it to be amazing (on a 720p plasma TV).
The only two things I don't like are the fact that if you want to do BD-live, you have to put the USB key in (no internal storage). And the only USB port is on the front under the right panel--so, you have to keep the panel open and a key sticking out if you want that feature. Also, the slide-down panel cover on the remote doesn't go down far enough to access easily the mute button. But, if you have smaller fingers, that's not a big deal either.
All-in-all, if you want NetFlix, UpScaling, and the latest BD specs--for the price, this is an awesome unit that I'd totally recommend to friends and family.
If you don't want netflix or cinemanow, then consider looking for cheaper models.
Digital camera Review: Cannot play movies from USB flash drive Summary: 2 Stars
I was so enthused to get this player because of the large feature set, but I just discovered a feature killer. As previous reviewer Dmitry Suchkov stated, the USB port does not support playing movies from a USB drive, period. The software/firmware on the USA model only allows USB access to photos/music. I discovered this on my own while playing around with the unit. Before purchasing, I read many reviews claiming support but have now realized that these reviews were coming from Europe, where the firmware allows this feature. From what I've read the BD390 can play all movies, even MKV files larger than 4GB because it has NTFS support. I may return my BD370 for a BD390, and now I understand why the BD390, although at first glance seems almost equal to the BD370 in features, is almost double the price. But if the USB port feature is not important to you, you will not be disappointed by this player. The Netflix streaming capability alone is worth the price of admission, and has forever changed how I watch my movies.
1/9/10 Update- The player will not recognize movies burnt as data onto a DVD-R either. Only the Pictures and Music features are available for access, but the Movies feature is greyed out. That version 8 firmware update really messed up this player's capabilities!
Digital camera Review: Cheap, and great foray into Blu Ray. Summary: 5 Stars
I have been waiting for 2 years to pick up a player. I just got my first hdtv (720p) last christmas. I found this at Best Buy the day after christmas for 149.99$. It was so easy to setup, the Blu ray looks really good for a non 1080p model. Am really impressed with the Netflix. I have seen little issues while watching LOST, but nothing worse then how cable has issues occasionally with standard programs, and you can go back if you miss something. For the price and the features set, plenty of bang for the buck. Plus, at some point, I will get a new better one with more bells and whistles, and it will be put in the bedroom, along with the tv I got. Great starter machine, Have not tried the upconverting of regular dvds, as I have an OPPO dvd player that is great for upconverting, and music.
Digital camera Review: DIED 1 year, 1 month, to the day! But I was always gentle! Summary: 1 Stars
In a serious case of "didn't think it would happen to MY LG blu ray player," my LG BD370 just died tonight. It's been giving me problems for a few months - a freeze here, a skip there, losing the audio over there. I thought it was the blu ray discs. I always kept up with firmware updates, and would comb message boards for solutions to the issues (unplugging it for the night, re-checking for a firmware update, even tried inching my sub-woofer away from my entertainment center). When I saw the trend of other people's players dying after a year, I thought "Well, surely they are mistreating their equipment, or their kids are sticking crap in the tray! Surely mine will last forever, as I'm the type who gingerly places discs in, regularly dusts, and always treats my home theater equipment with care." Nope. Didn't matter at all.
My player still has power, but does not recognize discs anymore. I've tried several discs and several things to get it to recognize there's a disc inside. It just says "Reading. No Disc."
I love movies, I love blu rays and dvds.
I will not buy another LG media player. Heck, my first dvd player, a Sylvania (because I was in high school, that's what I could afford) lasted 7 years. SEVEN YEARS! And LG can't push past 13 months? Come on.
So there you go. I'll be browsing for a new player after I hit "post." And to those whose player has already died, I'm sorry I made those assumptions.
