This hard drive is great if you want something for a monthly back up of your 100+ GBs of music to store off sight.
But I wouldn't use it for time machine or all the time. It gets too hot. Not so hot that you cant put your hand on it, but hot enough so that your wondering, is this safe? 0.o?
The fire wire 800 is great though. One cable for power and data transfer.
Ive all most had it for one year so its all most past my test.
Personally I replace all my hard drives (external and internal) yearly. I stagger them so im only replacing one every 3 months. But I also am a computer tech and have nothing better to do with my free time

I bought this about 2 months ago, and so far, so good. It is compact, portable and easy to use the first time: plug it in and copy files. I back up my mac laptop about once a week and this has been a great addition with no issues. Firewire also is nice and fast. AND I like the way it looks!
