This is a great product, but it would be better if there was a more even split between storing from Windows and storing from Mac. Otherwise, couldn't have a better experience as a generally clumsy person who drops stuff more than the average. It also holds up well thrown into a backpack. I like the variety of cables as well. Overall, this compact drive is definitely one of the best on the market.
Digital camera Review: LaCie 320gb Drive Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a drive to use with my 5 year old Mac Book Pro which has a small internal hard drive. The LaCie was very easy to set-up. It took only a couple of minutes. My need is to store photos and it accepts them quickly and without any glitches. I can run the drive with USB ports or with one USB for power and firewire for transfer. It appears to work as quickly either way.

LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 320 GB USB 2.0/FireWire 400/800 Portable Hard Drive 301832
This is my first comment on any product I have ever bought through Amazon. LaCie has no practical support for its products. It ships with Indigo Backup System, which is something I very much wanted. I tried to use Indigo and it gave me all sorts of messages as to the success or failure of the backup. No matter how I tried to use it I got a message "Backup Failed: This item was not copied because it matched an exception." Although I searched for the "exception" I couldn't find anything. Nor is there any explanation as to what an "exception" is; nothing in the manual, nothing on Indigo itself. So I was unable to use it to backup. Then a few times I got a message "Backup Successful." This happened when the process took about 3 seconds and ended up in a useless folder. It obviously did not backup anything. But there is no explanation of why this is or how to deal with it. I then downloaded the software again but got the same results.
Given this, I went to the Lacie website and it takes an incredible number of steps to get near the particular product and then gives options such as "Power Supply." Thinking that might be the issue, I opened that information which was just an advertisement to buy a power supply device (I have Mac and am using Firewire and don't need a power supply but I checked anyway). It didn't tell me whether and in what circumstances I needed a power supply, but I don't think I do. Because I checked out power supply, the support site made me start all over, having to input all sorts of numbers and information. Support will not provide you any answers until you go through all of this rigamarole. The support site never provided any information on my problem but finally there was a support phone number. After holding on the line for 15 minutes and having already spent 45 minutes to get there, I just hung up and gave up. I just used Carbon Copy Cloner but I was hoping to have Indigo as my backup utility. I don't. LaCie's online support is abyssal, seemingly designed by some programer who loves making people go through hoops and as a busy lawyer, I don't have time for their game so I called time out. My take is that while their product may be great, I really don't know, do not ever try to ask for help if it turns out that using it is unintelligible. Oh, by the way, I would simply have written all of this to Lacie if I could have found a way to do it.
Digital camera Review: LaCie Rugged Drives Summary: 5 Stars
Working with file based video, we have a new problem. What to do
with the huge files we create. Many of them 16 gigs or more. I have found
these LaCie drives to be among the best for handing off raw footage
to clients.
They are well made, easy to use, versatile, and in the price range
that I need.
They have USB, FireWire 400/800 which give you lots of options
when transfering data.
I have tried many other brands for working with video.
