Digital camera reviews of Lenmar DLC5L Lithium-ion Digital Camera/Camcorder Battery Equivalent to the Canon NB-5L Battery

Digital camera Review: Decent for price, but does not match original..
Summary: 3 Stars

The Lenmar battery fits and works fine with my Canon SD850. I have been using it intensively, and found that it does not hold a charge as well as the original Canon battery - between 151 to 226 shots against 356 with the original Canon battery. It does work great for its price. But if you expect to use your camera intensively, and do not wish to carry multiple spares, you may wish to invest in the original.

Digital camera Review: Decent value as Canon backup battery
Summary: 4 Stars

Ordered this as a backup battery for my new Canon SD870IS. Used it on a 2-week Disney World/Disney Cruise vacation (no, not rich....just lucky recipient of huge discounts!!). The Lenmar doesn't seem to hold a charge as long as the original Canon battery. I'll estimate that it still lasts about 2/3 as long as the Canon. But, at 1/3 of the cost, it still presents a good value.

As usual, Amazon delivered quickly and at a great price!

Digital camera Review: Delicious batteries!
Summary: 5 Stars

Amazing. Just absolutely amazing.

You see so many after-market batteries out there. Some are so insanely inexpensive it would scare me to buy them. You know, eBay stuff out of Hong Kong. Three for 7.99 made in China cheapo stuff. I mean, there all probably made in China now anyways, but I'm sure some are shadier than others but I trust the Lenmar name and I must say the Lenmar equivalent to Canon's NB-5L is a serious bargain! Decent manufacturing with decent quality control (knock on wood).

$60 some places are getting for an OEM Canon. I love Canon and I'm sure their NB-5L is top quality but I can't afford that much money. So I opt for the Lenmar.

Seriously scrumptious batteries. The plastic casing gives a nice crunch and the gritty/creamy lithium filling has a nice bitter taste with an unusual mouth feel to it.

They power my Canon SD790is VERY well too!

Please be advised that I do not recommend eating batteries to anyone. That would be a silly thing to do now wouldn't it?

Digital camera Review: Did Not Work Well For Me
Summary: 2 Stars

Excellent price and the battery did power the camera but only for 1 day. When it powered out, there was no warning, I took a picture and it died next shot. By contrast, the Canon battery just goes on and on with a single charge. As long as you know what you are getting into, I suppose the price is such that you can carry a couple of spares around as back ups as the OE battery is recharging.

Digital camera Review: Does NOT hold charge - Junk - Issues with properly fitting it in the camera
Summary: 1 Stars

Hi all,

Got this for my Canon 950 12MP camera.

In a word, its Junk! Stay away from this. Read below for a detailed explanation.

After reading several reviews, chose this one based upon the price and the milliamp rating.

As they say, you get what you pay for.

The main issue is that the charge doesn't hold up at all - even after a full 10 hour charge.

Second issue is that my camera kept complaining to "replace battery" with in a few minutes of using this "fully charged" one.

I had to open the battery cover, take it out and then put it back in and close the cover to make the message go away.

In detail:
Most of my shots are set to Auto flash mode with red eye reduction.

I used it in Disney/Universal/SeaWorld in Florida and you can image that I did not need to use the flash for day time shots - except when in indoors or in shows where the photos were permitted. Also, I did refrain from taking pictures of fireworks or night time stuff that I know would not come out properly. Yes, there are camera settings that will allow you to take those shots, but I just didnt bother. In all, I might have taken about 400/450 shots on our 7 day trip to FL.

In comparing with the original one that came with the camera, this one is way way behind.

The original one lasted for almost 2 or more days, while this one barely made it half a day.

My strong suggestion is that if you are going to be using your camera heavily, do pay more and get the real Canon one - which will last. OR buy more than one of these and get extra chargers too - because you are going to need them.

If I were to estimate, this battery did not even last for about 20-30 pictures (based upon the number of total pictures taken and other factors). This is a huge drawback and a big one too.

I did call Amazon for a refund/return. They have emailed me the RMA - will be mailing it out soon. And keep looking for other ones to replace this.

Later.
