Digital camera reviews of Levana CT1000 Digital Wireless Child Tracker Wrist Watch and Kid Finder/LocatorDigital camera Review: How far is far? Summary: 3 Stars
A.Lin, how far did you want it to go? A quarter mile? A criticism about range without some point of reference is not useful.
I have the IonKids Child Locator which costs about twice as much but has always performed very well for me. It works on the same principle - medium range direct wireless connection (no GPS). It has a more sophisticated tracker screen and one receiver will manage 4 or more transmitters (on 4 or more children). I had the opportunity to test it (the IonKids) with four kids at a museum and it worked pretty well if they all stuck together. They could be a big room or more away and still within maximum range. It has an adjustable range threshold at which it sounds the alarm. Sorry this review is more about the IonKids product but it seemed like these reviews needed a point of reference.
I encourage reviewers to give some kind of specific distance reference when they comment either good or bad. I don't own this Levana product but it sounds like its range and functionality is commensurate with its price, as compared to the IonKids product. You can find it right here on Amazon.
Digital camera Review: Junk...avoid at all costs! Summary: 1 Stars
Got this product back in late March as it was a gold box deal at the time and were planning an upcoming trip to Disney. Thought it would be great to have that extra piece of mind at the park. Trip wasn't until late July so after receiving the item, I stashed it for a while until the trip date got closer. About a week before we left, I took these out (We bought two, one with my wifes Amazon account as well) and proceeded to try and set them up. Well, the battery for the child watch unit is a rechargeable watch type battery and unfortunately, on one of the units, it was corroded. I went to a local battery store...a store that specializes in batteries...and they did not carry a replacement for this. So there is one unit down. The charging unit is made very cheaply which led to issues trying to keep the cable positioned in a way as to allow it to charge the child watch unit.
After a few hours, was finally able to get ONE of these "working". Unfortunately, it was not consistent when it made an attempt to display which direction the watch was from the parent unit. Sometimes it was right, sometimes it wasn't. To make it worse, when it was right, it took a while to get a right reading so in real life, if you are at a busy place, by the time it tells you the right direction, it may be too late to do anything about it. Also, there is supposed to be an alert/panic feature to where the child can press the button on the watch if he/she is lost and it will set off an alarm to let the parent know to start looking around. This worked about 70% of the time in my testing of this.
To summarize:
- Poorly made
- Inconsistent and slow readings
- Confusing setup
I'm a little disappointed that this was a featured item by Amazon. I'm even more disappointed in myself for not opening it and testing it sooner before the returns period expired. Lesson learned.
Digital camera Review: Levana CT1000 did not work Summary: 1 Stars
I cannot recommend this particular device. The device is unreliable, in that the alarm would sometimes go off with our child rignt next to us. You must hold this device flat like a compass for direction, but then both device and wrist beacon must remain perfectly still while the signal is triangulated (good luck), which was often several degrees off in the first place. The signal will bounce off of objects which can lead to false readings, which in the instructions it recommends using only in large open areas. However fairs, department stores, all have moments of crowded spaces, which pretty much rendered this device useless. I could often see our child with the wrist device on, but the hand held parental device would indicate that our child was in another direction entirely. I once accidentaly unpaired the device from the handset, but after that the wrist unit turned off never to turn on again. Charging did nothing, so we returned it for a refund.
Digital camera Review: No quality assurance from Amazon Summary: 1 Stars
I just recieved this device after waiting two shippment weeks to my country (Colombia) to find out that it does not work at all. The child unit does not receive the charge and i now have a new decorator device in my childs bedroom.
Return this product will cost me more than the unit it self.
I hoped Amazon did some basic quality assurance shippment
Digital camera Review: Not Great Summary: 3 Stars
It works, but not very well. It is short range, and walls stop the signal.
