Digital camera Review: A must have for trips!

I just recently went on spring break from grad school and I was going to be flying to DC. The week before I left I was shopping online and stumbled across this. I told my dad about it because every trip we are always trying to balance our luggage on our scale at home which isn't exactly the best method. He immediately ordered this and we received it 2 days later. I love this luggage scale! I am a notorious over packer so it is always scary for me to travel because I am always right below 50 pounds. Well now I don't have to worry about that! I weighed by bag before I left and it weighed 49 lbs, since I was going to be gone a week I couldn't exactly take anything out so I decided to trust the luggage scale, and when they weighed it at the airport it said the same thing. Now I don't have to stress so much about those pesky baggage fees. I even packed the scale with me in my carryon to make sure on the way back I wasn't over. I am not very strong and I was able to use this. I like that you can grip this model with two hands, it really helps! I looked at a lot of reviews before buying this scale. I find it accurate, and easy to use. The display facing up makes it easier to read as you lift the bag with the scale a couple inches off the floor.
Regarding of people's issues with accuracy, there are reports citing poor maintenance of airport scales and accuracy issues (too bad for you if their scale is off), and the instructions say to wait 30 second after turning on the device for it to calibrate, if you don't, it can affect the accuracy of that weighing.
So far I've only used it for two trips but I loaded up my bags to 49 pounds, each. The airport scale seemed to agree with my scale.

This scale is made in all black for REI with the REI logo on it. I bought mine while shopping at my local REI store, where it cost more than on Amazon, but after reading some negative reviews I wanted to easily be able to return it in case it didn't work or I didn't like it. My worries were unfounded. This is a great gadget to have for travelers. Here's why:
1. This unit is very accurate. My wife recently took a trip and before she left for the airport I told her that her suitcase already weighed 46.5 pounds according to this unit and to be careful about adding anything else. She was skeptical because I had never used the unit before, but after she got to the airport, her suitcase weighed in at what I had measured on the unit.
2. The unit is not heavy, and can easily stow in your suitcase to check its weight for the flight home after you buy souvenirs etc. on a vacation trip. It's a lot easier to weigh your suitcase yourself before returning home than getting socked at the airport with an extra fee or else holding up a check-in line while you start shifting items from your suitcase to a carryon bag.
3. The unit is easy to operate. Virtually any suitcase will have a handle to which you can secure the weighing strap. Then all you have to do is turn the unit on, lift the suitcase off the ground just a couple of inches, and wait for a beep to lock in the weight. You can hold the unit with both hands to make lifting easier if you wish.
Bottom line: This is an easy and efficient way to check the weight of items when traveling. However, you do need to be able to lift the item a couple of inches off the ground, so if you think that might be a problem, then this unit is not for you.

I already knew about Balanzza since my friend has one, but since I was in walmart wanted to buy the digital scale that they had in store. As soon as I opened it and put the battery in the unit, it showed error and never came back to life. I returned it the same day and ordered this one. This being my first purchase on Amazon, I was not sure how the packaging would be done. The packaging was nice and the unit has two batteries in it to make it operational even though it is mentioned in the manual that no battery is provided! It works the way I expected it to work and looks sturdy. I'm hoping that it'll work for atleast 4-5 years, given that it costs a little high. I bought this scale because I travel a lot and HATE getting to the airline counter and have to re-arrange all my belongings to be under the weight limit. With limits changing all the time, I needed something simple and accurate to use instead of my bathroom scale. I got this item shipped immediately and got to my house fast, and I used it right out of the box. It worked very accurately, and it turned out my bags weighed exactly the same on the scale as on the airline scale, so I was very pleased. One problem is that I am neither very strong nor very tall, so lifting a 50lb bag off the ground and waiting for that beep can be tiresome, so if you have a stronger friend nearby maybe they can do the honors. But it's worth peace of mind, considering you can also use it to weigh anything from mail packages to bags to your cat if you need to! Easy to calibrate, easy to switch between lbs and kgs, easy to use! Worth every penny, and will definitely pay for itself just in one trip (in overweight fees!)
