Digital camera reviews of Lexar CompactFlash FireWire 800 Card Reader RW034-001Digital camera Review: Absolute screamer Summary: 5 Stars
Why did I wait so long to get a FW800 card reader? This reader is fast, on the order of 10x faster than a USB 2.0 reader. This reader is also the best built one I've used.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
Superfast uploading with new real fast compact flash cards. Only problem is card has to be recessed to far into the front slot. Unlike in the picture where 1/2in of card is sticking out. Makes it difficult to seat properly, and harder to remove. A simple 1/16 to 1/8th of an inch left outside of the slot would have made it work much easier.
Digital camera Review: Amazing product Summary: 5 Stars
This is a GREAT product! The download times are amazing and it works perfectly. You can eject your card, and insert another without hesitation. The light stays on all the time letting you know it's connected and ready.
Digital camera Review: Bad mechanical design - likely to damage CF cards Summary: 1 Stars
The Lexar Firewire card reader is very fast once the CF card is forced in far enough for the reader to recognize that one is in place. It takes all the strength in both hands to force the card into the reader and at some point the stress on the card is likely to make it fail and I will lose the pictures on it as well as the card.
I sent the unit back with an RMA and the reader that Lexar sent in its place was a used one with the same problem. This is now a discontinued item and even though I bought it in December of 2010 I cannot get customer support from Lexar.
Average time spent on hold dealing with Lexar support has been more than 30 minutes.
Better to spend the extra money and locate a SanDisk Firewire card reader. Lexar reader is terrible and their tech support is worse.
Digital camera Review: Be very careful Summary: 1 Stars
If I could I would give this product no stars at all. Please be very careful when using it. It is NOT compatible with Snow Leopard OS on macs. In fact it will damage the 800 hub beyond repair despite what Lexar says even if there ids nothing else connected to the hub. I have reported this problem to Nitro AV who make one of the very best 800 hubs around and have recommended to them to put a disclaimer on their products about the Lexar 800 reader. My reader was thrown in the trash as Lexar accept no responsibility and only tell you about the incompatibility after it's too late.
