Digital camera reviews of Lexar CompactFlash FireWire 800 Card Reader RW034-001Digital camera Review: FW 800 Card reader Summary: 1 Stars
This firewire 800 reader is not worth it, It damaged one of my Lexar Pro CF card, Lexar replaced the card but I lost some footage. I returned this product for a refund.

Transfers about 3 RAW files a second. Very fast. It does feel sort of cheap, but so far is working fine.
Digital camera Review: Fast Card Reader Summary: 4 Stars
The Card Reader works fast. I have been using it with a firewire 800 (1394b) to firewire 400 (1394a 6 pin) cable without any issues.
Overall this is a great reader. I have only two issues with this product. First,I have is that the eject button feels a little flimsy. It doesn't feel like it's going to break or anything. It just does not feel solid.
Secondly, the "feet" get in the way of slipping the reader into my overpacked bag. The feet are used when stacking more than one reader. The Sandisk Firewire Reader looks a little smoother and I like how that reader doesn't have any protrusions.
Overall this is a great reader.
Digital camera Review: Fast but Crappy Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this after my Lexar FW 400 card reader stopped working. I bought it at a reputable camera store (vs buying on Amazon which I would have preferred) and used it to download multiple cards from multiple cameras.
I noticed that I had quite a few Corrupt files, which I hadn't experienced before, and from different cameras and different cards. So I deduced that it was the reader after I checked the cards again against the corrupt files and found that the files on the cards were fine. After downloading just the corrupt files it was fine, but who wants that kind of performance?
I am disappointed because I love Lexar CF cards and the old card reader lasted for years.
This one is weird to use as others have said in that you have to really push the card into the door, vs my old one which you just pushed the card in and pulled it out by hand (ie. not button to push in to eject the card from the reader).
The 800 connections are stiff and seem like they do dislodge or come loose easily if you don't handle it gingerly- so avoid moving the reader when a card is downloading.
Mine is Rev A- vs I guess Rev B (which is an updated version that is compatible with Mac 10.6 I have read), so that could be part of the problem as I am running 10.6.
All in all its annoying that I have this brand new $75 firewire 800 reader from a reputable company like Lexar and I have issues like a handful (maybe 10 from 3000 files) of corrupt image files that I have to then go back and find the card the image is on and re-download it.
I wouldn't buy again or recommend to a friend. Not sure if its a version issue but certainly old versions shouldn't be on the shelf at a high end camera store when 10.6 has been out for so long.
Digital camera Review: Fast reader but flawed FireWire 800 Implementation Summary: 2 Stars
The reader is indeed fast. But...
One of the features that I was interested in was the pass thru FireWire 800 port for daisy chaining of devices. Unfortunately if the reader is in a chain with other FireWire 800 devices it will not operate. It may also prevent other devices in the chain from operating properly. This is unfortunate as many machines only have one 800 port, and FireWire 800 hubs are expensive. Below is the reply that I received from Lexar about the issue.
-- Lexar Technical Support --
Thank you for contacting us. The FireWire 800 reader is designed to daisy chain with other of the FireWire 800 readers. You can daisy chain up to 4 of the readers together. They are not designed to work daisy chained with other devices like external hard drives. Best suggestion I can give for a case like yours is you would want to purchase a powered FireWire 800 hub to connect the 2 different devices to your system.
