Digital camera Review: Lexar Fire wire 800 reader

After purchasing A Mac Desktop, I knew I would be utilizing it for editing my photos. I wanted to be able to upload large files quickly and this reader fills the bill. It has worked very well and the only reason for not giving it a full 5 star rating has been some slight difficulty in seating the compact flash card correctly in the unit. I do not know if this problem is only with my purchased reader. I have not tried others. Its speed is great.Digital camera Review: Mac OS compatability - Snow Leopard

Excellent product when working. However please be aware of compatability issues with Mac OS software. I quote from Lexar Support.
' ...Lexar CF Firewire RW34 reader has two revisions. Rev A and Rev B. Rev A is compatible with Mac up to 10.5.8 . Rev B is compatible with 10.6 and above..'

Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.2 version OS Warning...
The reader worked fine for the last year, until I updated my OS.
For some reason, this Firewire 800 Reader does not work under MacOS 10.6.2...
This is the only Firewire 800 device I have that FOR SOME REASON DOES NOT WORK UNDER MacOS 10.6.
Lexar must have seriously violate the Firewire-800 hardware Spec????
I checked the Lexar Web site... guess what..no OS incompatibility statements....
I love Lexar Flash cards, and I use to love this reader...
So, give this Reader a pass... I changed over to the Lexar Professional UDMA Dual-Slot USB Reader... Works Great...maybe a little slower...but it works...

Desiring a fast, quality firewire card reader, I decided to spend the money necessary for this purchase. I'm disappointed in this product's make and quality. It appears to be poorly made, requiring considerable exertion to shove the card into the reader, engendering fear that the card might be damaged in the process. Additionally, the ejection button requires more force than expected and often a couple of attempts. Owning a low cost card reader prior to this, which is much better built, I am surprised at the cost-quality ratio of this Lexar reader. Additionally, I had associated Lexar with better quality cards/readers and unfortunately for them, this reader has changed that association considerably. I wouldn't recommend spending your hard-earned dollars here.Digital camera Review: NOT OSX 10.6 Compatible
