Digital camera reviews of Linksys WRT150N Wireless N Home Router with 4-Port Switch MimoDigital camera Review: Best router I've ever had Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this router about a year. It's simply the best wireless router I've ever used. I had to give my vote for it because I see it getting some bad reviews here.
Opening ports is simple and works every time without restarts and such. Setting up is easy too. I haven't had to upgrade the firmware. It's never dropped a connection on me in a year of use. The internal software is quick too when you open ports or make any other changes. Wireless and direct connects are fast with no speed loss. I even have a Vonage phone system connected to it and it works without any break up. In addition everything is nicely color coded. The firewall works great. When I have all the ports closed Zone Alarm never has to block a single external access attempt. Just a great piece of hardware.
Very pleased with this router, Linksys makes the best routers IMO. After my headaches with D-link this is a pleasure to use. My D-Link router used to drop connections all the time, I got so mad I think I used a hammer on it and went back to my old Linksys. lol I bought this to replace my old Linksys router. I also set up a NetGear router for a friend and that was as bad as D-Link or worse. It kept dropping connections. We returned that one and got the best Linksys router available at Best Buy. We set it up without any problems or dropped connections. I never have problems with Linksys.
I have my router set up upstairs with my PC. When I connect downstairs with my Mac Laptop I get a great signal, 5mb line, 566k per second transfers. No complaints here.
My set up is a homebuilt AMD 64 system with XP service pack 2, all updates. I'm using firmware version 1.00.5.
Digital camera Review: Crashes constantly Summary: 1 Stars
This router crashes at least once an hour and can lose connection every 10 minutes or more, especially when trying to download files using bittorrent. It also seems to do a terrible job of keeping a stable connection for multiple machines at once. I've used routers at least six years ago that held a connection better than this machine. It's surprising that Linksys would release something so incredibly buggy years later.
Digital camera Review: DD-WRT Firmware Solves the Freeze Issue! Summary: 1 Stars
Team,
My WRT54G died on me and I ran out and bought a 150N without reading the reviews. I have version 1.1 and with the latest firmware 1.0.1.9 from Linksys, this thing drops internet connection on both wired and wireless connections. I decided to investigate to see if it's a hardware or software issue. It turns out to be software as I am using DD-WRT v24 RC-6 (01/02/08) mini - build 8743 and all my connections issues are gone. My router is now stable and I can say that this is a nice device. If you are having issues, give DD-WRT a shot, you'll thank me later.
I will send information on this to Linksys so hopefully they can get decent firmware out soon.
Digital camera Review: Disappointing, at best... but there is hope yet! Summary: 2 Stars
I have been a Linksys user for several years. I had a G router with remote hi-gain antennas prior to this router. I was happy with that setup but the router was getting old and starting to act up a bit. So I decided to upgrade to this N router and N adapter for my HP notebook.
Well the old G did not act up near as much as this router does... I have to reboot this thing almost daily. It either will not connect (set IP address) or the speed is all over the board... starting out at 270 Mbps and will drop to 1 Mbps, float around 1 and 50 but never re-establish itself completely.
I have tried running it with no encryption, WPA2 personal, WEP... nothing seems to impact its reliability one way or the other. It has the latest firmware...
I am truly disgusted with the Linksys product.
Update - 10/19/08 - well once I tried many different frequencies, I finally found one that has very little interference from surrounding wireless phones, etc. The signal has become stable and I do not lose connection like I did. With that said, I am still disappointed in the range of this draft-N product (compared to what I had before) but now that the signal has stabilized, I am satisfied enough to not throw it out the window (how's that for a product satisfaction statement?).
Digital camera Review: Doesn't work well with my MacBook Summary: 1 Stars
Revised review. I had this router for 7 weeks and finally gave up on it. I kept losing the internet even though the signal strength was maxed out. It started out working about 95% of the time, but then over the weeks became totally unreliable working less than 50% of the time.
CompUSA allowed me to return it and I got another Linksys, but this one is a "G" router. I have a macbook (wireless) and a PC (ethernet) connected. The "G" router, so far, has been flawless. The sales rep says the problem with "N" routers is they haven't established the final "protocol" (I believe was the term he used) and so there may be issues with "N" routers. I am not the most tech savy guy, but I can tell you the wrt150"N" router was a total bust, while my linksys "G" router works great.
