Digital camera reviews of Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter (Black)Digital camera Review: A must if you use presntation slides to deliver material Summary: 5 Stars
I teach technical classes for a living. Often the material is heavy and I work very hard to keep my students engaged by delivering a high-energy, animated presentation. Another instructor used this very Cordless Presenter and I scoffed at the idea, until I tried it. Then I rushed to buy one of my own, and now I'll actually panic if I can't find it when setting up for a class.
The ability to move powerpoint slides forward and backwards without having to walk back to the machine running the slideshow makes the course flow so much better. Additionally, this little presenter has a built-in timer, vibrating alarm and laser-pointer - all of which help me with my presentation.
Technically speaking: the transmitter runs with two AAA batteries that seem to last for ever, and just in case, there's a battery meter on the LCD so I won't get caught unprepared. Still, I've been using it every day for 6 weeks and the battery power seems down about 10%. The receiver is USB powered, and stashes away cleverly in the Presenter's case.
The package only says compatible with Windows, but I've been using it 100% reliably on my MacBook Pro, with Powerpoint for office 2004 as well as NeoOffice (a MAC OS port of Open Office). Although I haven't personally tried it, I've read that it works with Keynote as well (Keynote is to iWork as Powerpoint is to MS Office.)
I was initially worried because when I plugged it into my MAC, it said it couldn't recognize the "keyboard device". Then I fired up Powerpoint, and it just worked. Ever since, when I plug in the little USB receiver, the MAC doesn't show any indication that it sees the device, but it just works. Windows XP auto-configures itself and works like a champ with Powerpoint; I haven't tested it with Open Office either on Win or Linux, and have avoided touching Vista, so I can't comment there.
Digital camera Review: A near-perfect presenter Summary: 4 Stars
Logitech 2.4 GHz Cordless Presenter
I've needed a good presenter, and this one fills the bill! I have a Logitech blue-tooth mouse that doubled as a presenter, but it often drops off line; it happened once in the middle of a presentation! That is an inconvenience that I can live well without. Besides, the mouse is too bulky. The Logitech presenter is the near-perfect remedy for this. The wireless connection hasn't failed me yet, and the size is a good fit. The added pointer, timer, and battery-life indicator are welcomed bonuses to a fine product. Add to that a USB dongle that fits into the unit, along with a nice pouch for storage! I had a presentation recently with three other group members. After a very brief lesson on the Logitech's operation, my group members had little trouble. The only issue that kept it from getting a full five stars is the occasional accidental pressing of the volume button. This causes a volume indicator to appear on the screen. Perhaps better placement of this button would benefit, as it is located where the right thumb rests on the unit. Removal of the the on-screen volume indicator is another possible remedy. Other than that, the unit is a solid performer.
Digital camera Review: A painful experience Summary: 1 Stars
If you just happen to misplace the USB receiver, or break it or simply just forget the receiver in the last PC you presented... Well, you will find out that in places such as Australia you cannot get the little spare part.. Given that this item is so easy to be lost, I found this oversight from Logitech to be very annoying. I would like to have a couple of spare USB receivers so I don't have to worry about loosing them. Too hard, I'll have to contact the USA guys and see if that can be arranged from there. Or just get another, cheaper brand and forget about the Presenter all together. So if you use it in many places chances are that you will, sooner or latter, have a useless presenter.
Digital camera Review: Absolutely great! Summary: 5 Stars
This has been exactly what I need. The range is incredible and it is extremely simple to use. I love the countdown timer because then I don't have to conspicuously glance at my watch or the clock. The only drawback is that it has no mouse so you can't jump to other slides or start movie clips that don't start automatically with the slide. All in all, it's been wonderful!
Digital camera Review: All my colleages want one! Summary: 4 Stars
All I can say is that I am very happy with this product. It does exactly what I want it to do.
