Digital camera reviews of Logitech 720p Webcam Pro 9000Digital camera Review: Awesome webcam ! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I was a Logitech fan for years. Occasionally they put out a product that is not as great as it could be but most of the time they are innovative and the quality of their products is unmatched.
Besides the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 I also own Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF and Logitech 2 MP Portable Webcam C905.
The most important thing all these webcams have in common is the image quality. The Pro 9000 has a 2-MP HD sensor allowing it to produce high-definition video up to 1600 X 1200. The build in microphone is really good. The people you talk to can hear you loud and clear from across the room with very little noise or hiss.
Drivers are available from Logitech for all Windows versions including Vista and Windows 7 64 bit. As usual with Logitech products, the drivers are stable and offer access to all the Webcam capabilities. Windows 7 recognized the camera without any drivers but if you want to access all the camera features (focusing, zooming, etc) you will need the Logitech driver.
I wish they would also provide MAC drivers for their webcams. They offer a similar camera for MAC called QuickCam Vision Pro which seems to be a Webcam Pro 9000 made for Apple machines but having to buy another camera when all you actually need is a MAC driver is not cool.
I use this camera for Skype video calling and it is one of the cameras that will work with the Skype High Quality Video Feature for frames up to 30 FPS. It is awesome!!!
The thing that I like the best about the camera capabilities is the Right Light technology which allows the camera to self adjust and compensate for different lighting conditions. The white balancing, exposure, brightness and contrast are adjusted to create the best possible image. I was amazed to see how well the image looked in low light. The camera was producing a better image than I was seeing with my eyes. No grainy or noisy images due to low lighting either.
The capabilities I listed above are true for all my Logitech cameras. The orbit AF has also a stand that could be useful and it has the capability of tracking one or more persons.
Also included with any of these cameras is the Logitech Vid service which allows free high quality video calling. Since Skype is so good I did not feel the need to try the Logitech Vid. When installing the drivers, the user has the option of not installing Logitech Vid which is nice.
I definitely recommend this to anyone. All these cameras are expensive but the quality they offer is unparalleled.
The only complaint I have is regarding the MAC drivers. These cameras are just too expensive to buy two versions of the same product, one for PC and one for MAC, they should be universal.
Digital camera Review: Awesome webcam! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best webcam I've ever had. I read all the reviews before I purchased this product. I also researched all of the up-to-date models and this was the best one. I've got to say it was the best one for sure! I am very pleased with this product. It has a clear picture, mic, and cool features. I am using it with my husband in Iraq and we are very happy with it. We use it for skype. I would highly recommend it. Logitech has done it again!
Digital camera Review: Awesome when works, worse then useless when doesn't (which is most of the time) Summary: 2 Stars
**** Update ****
Have now been using Version 3.6.0.216 & Version 11.5 of the QuickCam software for about 3 weeks. So far there have been no problems and I think the combination is just great. Thoroughly recommed and would now rate at a solid 4. Only because the product is not perfect!
******** Previous expereince with old versions of software and drivers below.
I have a completely up to date Windows XP Pro machine (all windows updates as at yesterday) and the latest version of Skype 3.5.0.214. Before the install of the Quick Cam my machine ultra stable and completely reliable.
At the begining of the Quick Cam install it asked if it could check for the latest software. I said yes and it said that there were no updates. (The cd had version 11.0)
Once the install was complete and the cam plugged in, the problems started. Skype kept freezing up and becoming unresponsive. It would not even die when the skype process was killed from task manager. As soon as the cam was unplugged from the USB port, the machine and skype jumped back to life and caught up with all the queued key presses. Plug the cam in again and it would work again for a short while.
Now the worst bit. And it gets much worse. I checked the Logitech website for updated drivers even though it said there weren't any at the beginning of the install. What do you know there was version 11.1 available and it seems so for 2 weeks. So I downloaded and installed them. Now I was able to get a Skype video conversation going for about 2-3 minutes then Blue Screen!!! I haven't had a bluescreen on one of my machines for years.
Anyway, I gave two stars becuase I think the hardware is just great. It does have the slight distortion issue (as mentioned by others on the web), but at the end of the day this is a webcam, and it is the best output I have seen from ANY webcam yet. I will hold on for one more update to the webcam software (11.2?) and if it doesn't work then, I will take it back.
Digital camera Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
Great cam!!! The pics and vids are clear. Auto lighting adjustment is great, considering the room I have my computer in isn't lit very well. "Follow me" feature is too cool. Cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else. Great buy! Highly recommend.
Digital camera Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
First, the video quality is awesome. Second, I LOVE the auto-follow and auto-focus!
I bought this mainly due to the video resolution, so I was pleasantly surprised with it's other features. No more repositioning the camera all the time! Just attach it to the top of your monitor, point it in the general direction of your seating, and the camera will automatically point the lens at you, zoom in on your face, and put your face in focus! If you have more than one person, it's also capable of following multiple faces as well, although I haven't tried that.
For the auto features to work, it requires installing some of their software, but luckily it isn't the kind that annoyingly runs at startup or something. It only runs when some program accesses the camera. Also, I believe that you have to have Windows in order to install the software (and thus for these special features to work), but rest assured that it works fine for me in 64-bit Vista, so I'm sure it will work in 32-bit XP and Vista as well.
It's like using a webcam for the first time all over again. This is what a webcam SHOULD be! Once you try this, you'll never go back to el cheapo cams again! =)
