Digital camera Review: Good value with a rebate

This was my first try at using a webcam. I bought one for myself, and one for my less technically savvy girlfriend. She's never had to ask for help. I'm impressed with the simple installation and plug-n-play performance. The software is quite good and feature-laden without being overwhelming. We tend to chat late at night and the images at low lighting levels is more than acceptable. As pleased as I am with the product, and it's attractive design, I'm not sure I would have purchased it without the rebate. I bought this for Skype and AIM, but since it has a built in mic right next to the lens, I can use it for on line gaming like Half Life 2 - Deathmatch. My gaming friends say I sound "really good" when we communicate back and forth. I was going to buy a separate headset for gaming, but this turned out to be a great "all in one" unit.
Logitech should market the gaming part of this unit a little more. It's a perfect solution for someone that wants to video conference, AIM, Skype and play online games.
After reading the reviews about the software issues, I didn't install the software that came with it. I just downloaded it from the internet, and it was a piece of cake to install. Great product.

Its a great camera with superb clarity but the software that came with it wouldn't work with Vista Premium even though it said it would. I spent 4 hours fiddling with it, reloading and trying everything until I finally went on line and downloaded the latest and next version of software. It came with V 10 but you will need V11 or your system may not recogize the camera as new hardware.
A weekend tech support telephone line would have helped. Not cost effective I guess but is losing a sale cost effective ?

This is my second webcam. Although it still works, there are no new drivers for my old one as the manufacturer no longer makes webcams. I am really pleased with my Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision. The way it adapts to the light is amazing. Images are well defined. The QuickCam adjustments are easy to operate so I can get the right color balance and get the right contrast and brightness. I've talked with friends around the country, in Canada and in Australia. They all say the picture I'm transmitting is great. The ones with Logitech cams have better pictures to transmit also. I've already talked several friends into checking out this webcam, as I think it is tops!
