I don't know what happened with this particular item but I have nothing but problems with the mouse! The keyboard works great, I have never has to use the connect button, or reset for it either - but the mouse is another story. I am always having to click the connect button! Everytime I go to use the computer, connect, or reset has become part of the process! I thought maybe it is just the batteries I use, so I tried rechargebale ones, and ones meant to last longer, and the more traditional ones too - problem still exist! I gave up finally put the mouse away - still use the keyboard. The quick access buttons are great, took some getting use to because I was always use to using the mouse to do everything. Nice look and feel. That's the good part. Range is about a foot max. But that's OK for my usage. The mouse batteries last two to four weeks. I've now owned this combo for 6 months so that's a lot of batteries. I have an older Logitech wireless combo that is still on its original set of batteries after over a year. Their tech support had nothing of value to say other than to tell me the LED dimmed when the mouse is not moved to extend battery life. Good thing! It would need new batteries every day without this high-tech feature!!?? They never did tell me if 3 weeks mouse battery life was normal. From other reviews, apparently it is. I'll probably be buying another combo as the keycap letters are cheap paste-ons and they are rubbing off after only six months of use. I have several keys now blank. I tried the finger nail polish sealer trick on one key -- bad idea. It dissolved the stick-on letter. Logitech does not sell keycaps so the only choices are make your own paste-on letters, live with mystery keys or buy a new keyboard. But it's been reliable. No jerking or delayed motion reported by others. Embossed keycaps, better mouse battery life and better range (I suspect it is interference from my 2.4 GHz phone nearby) and they would have had an outstanding combo for the money. As it is, it worth about $25 in my opinion. But I've owned worse.Digital camera Review: Batteries running out

I bought my Cordless Desktop LX 300 3 weeks ago, and I have had to change the batteries in the mouse already!! The batteries were the last thing that I checked because I couldn't believe that they had run out so soon. but yup when I replaced the batteries my mouse started running again....
When I am on the road with my laptop I will have to carry spare batteries with me!! not good.
