Digital camera reviews of Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (USB/PS/2)Digital camera Review: 2nd one in less than 3 years Summary: 2 Stars
They just seem to 'die' on me. It's really rather frustrating which is the only reason I"m writing this because I'm so mad right now. My second one just stopped responding and every 5 minutes I have to reestablish the connection between the mouse and the wireless unit. Like really, this is pathetic. I'm running a IO Gear KVM switch using 2 Macs (mind you I did have another IO Gear KVM completely die on me). Anyway I plugged in my bulky Kensington Expert Mouse (wired) and it works no problem.
So 2 things,
1. This must be a flaw with Logitech Wireless Trackballs on Macs using KVM switches
2. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LOGITECH WIRELESS MOUSE.
For the record, it kills me to complain about this mouse, I loved it and now I will have to find something wired that's in its calibre.
Digital camera Review: A Great Replacement for the Original Cordless TrackMan Summary: 5 Stars
My original Cordless Trackman FX would not work with Windows 7 (no drivers), and I was fretting about losing its use. I purchased this one, and it is an excellent replacement. It does have more buttons than I need, but it allows me to continue with a double click with one press of the button. Also, the track ball seems to turn a lot more smoothly than the original, but this may just be because it's new. A great product that works well with Windows 7!
Digital camera Review: A Pain in the Wrist and Awkward Summary: 1 Stars
A physical therapist recommended the Trackman as a replacement for all mice/trackballs in my department -- whether we complained of problems with RSI or not. After one week of use my wrist ached more than it had in 3 years of working in the same job. Out of 6 employees in my department, only one continues to use it and she admits to not liking it very much.
the scroll wheel is so out of place, it doesn't feel comfortable at all to use. The resistance of the primary click is greater than the right click. (this makes no sense.) If you have long fingers like me, you'll have to bend your thumb in to click with the tip of your thumb or else flex your thumb out to use the inside knuckle. no thanks.
i shoved this thing back into its box and went back to my Logitech Marbleman - which is balanced, comfortable and allows you to use it with both your left or right hand.
Digital camera Review: A Scroll Wheel too Recessed Summary: 3 Stars
This is not all together a fair review. At age 52 I have Parkinson's disease which makes it difficult to move my hands and fingers in repetitive motions due to stiffness. I thought the trackball part of this design would allow for less wrist action and that the overall design I saw from the accompanying photo would allow me to switch hands. This it did. Although awkward for use of the left hand as opposed to the right it did function well enough to meet the goals I envisioned for it. The extra programmable buttons were also a nice addition. Its weight and non-skid rubber feet were excellent in preventing my having to "chase" the mouse about when pressing buttons at odd angles. My sole design complaint lies in the recessed layout of the "scroll wheel". It is too recessed to make for easy pressing of it for use of the "third' mouse button function. If the wheel and slot were just a little wider it would have made a different.
I should also like to note that like most manufacturers of "third party" hardware, the software for it provides for unwanted, unnecessary "options" like an obtrusive messenger service. This I had to edit out of the registry startup to keep it from "popping in" annoyingly. I hate it when you check a block "NO" and it gives it to you anyway, in the background. This is what really made it a "three out of five".
Digital camera Review: A bit awkward for me Summary: 4 Stars
It does everything is said it would do. I was very impress how easy was to give each button (and it has many) a particular task, totally customizable. This mouse with my hand on top of it would not fit on my sliding keyboard shelf when the shelf is under the desk top (which is the way I use it when playing games and I don't need the keyboard),it seats higher than a side mounted trackball mouse. So for that reason I chose to return it, but since I threw the packaging away, I'm listing it on eBay.
