Digital camera reviews of Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (USB/PS/2)Digital camera Review: Awsome device Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best trackball I have ever used, and the wireless funcationality is superb.
Digital camera Review: BIG trackball!! Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this because I'd had a similar wired trackball. I'm getting used to it but it's much bigger than my old one, maybe a little too big. It works fine and has some nice features so maybe I'll get used to it. If you have small hands this would not be the trackball for you.
Digital camera Review: Ball is too small Summary: 1 Stars
This looked good in the store so I bought one to replace my Logitech Marble FX which had a broken button switch. Nuts. I ended up with a Microsoft TrackBall Explorer. The ball is still not comfortably large like the FX, but the FX can't be fixed, so....
Digital camera Review: Barely adequate replacement for Microsoft Trackball Explorer Summary: 4 Stars
I had a beloved Microsoft Trackball Explorer which finally broke after years of hard service at work. This Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman looked like the closest replacement, and though it has some definite drawbacks, it may still be the best replacement for the discontinued Microsoft Trackball Explorer. At least it has some programmable buttons and a scroll wheel, and really nice ball movement.
PROS: Very slick, smooth, precise ball movement. Ball and bearing cleaning is a snap. Many buttons programmable, but oddly not all of them. Basic ergonomic shape is good. Wireless works well, though you occasionally have to press the "connect" button after rebooting the PC. Initial orientation was off by about 30 degrees, but this was easily corrected in the software. Long battery life. It has a real scroll wheel, plus Cruise Up and Cruise Down which are nice.
CONS: Placement of buttons and scroll wheel is awkward. Left Click button is about the worst, also scroll wheel is way too far back. Forward/back buttons are funny - Forward is OK, but Back is hard to reach without really scrunching up your thumb. Left Click button is too small and is badly placed and angled - this is the button you will use the most, so it should be the largest and easiest to hit - like its Right Click brother is. While you can reprogram some of the buttons, you can't reprogram Left Click and Right Click - why not? Buttons on top have poor tactile feel - it's hard to tell when you've managed to press one, except by what happens on your computer screen.
CONCLUSION: The Microsoft Trackball Explorer was the best pointing device ever made. Fortunately I still have one that works on my home computer. The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman is an acceptable, though far from excellent, replacement. It's probably the best replacement there is, despite its noted drawbacks.
Digital camera Review: Behind the red ball... Summary: 5 Stars
The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman is very comfortable and easy to use. I highly recommed it!
(Now, if I can just find where that ball rolled, when I dropped it...)
