Digital camera reviews of Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (USB/PS/2)

Digital camera Review: Best mouse I've ever owned
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my 2nd Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. My first lasted several years--I honestly can't remember how long I had it, it's been that long. This model is as efficient as the first, allows me to leave a small area on my busy desk dedicated to the mouse and no cords in my way. The scrolling wheel is awesome, I sure miss it when I use anyone else's PC.

I definitely recommend this purchase to anyone.

Digital camera Review: Best one I've ever found
Summary: 5 Stars

I love it. I like Logitech because the last trackball I had came down with a problem and, rather than fix it, Logitech just sent me a new hot off the assembly line model. This is the model that replaced the one I had and I need one that is a finger-operated ball. With arthritis in my fingers and moreso in my thumbs, there were very few trackballs to pick from. I'm so glad that ergonomics has been applied to items we use so often. This trackball is cordless and engineered so you can be leaning back in your chair even 6 feet away and use it accurately. You don't have to keep moving it around like a mouse, you can have it in any position and just move the little red ball with your fingers while your hand rests on the desk or in your lap - wherever you are most comfortable with it. It doesn't need to be on a mousepad and doesn't need to even be facing the computer. I also have carpal tunnels and fibromyalgia which affect my hands and fingers and wrists and arms. This is a blessing from above. It has so many buttons with so many options to which you can set it, it makes it fun to change them every once in a while. Just so you remember how you reset them. I still don't use them all, but they are there if I want them. Two buttons are close together and, knowing me and how I can slip my finger over too far, I have both buttons set to be double clicks and don't have to worry about it. Another good thing about the design of this trackman trackball is that the side of your hand is resting on the desk, rather than having to hold it up to operate it. I sure wish these had been out when I was in the working world. I highly recommmend them to anyone even with healthy hands so they don't get to be like mine. It is so easy to keep clean, and to clean it; and, it only takes two AA batteries which last a long time. I use it 10 to 14 hours a day and my hands even feel better than they did before I got this Logitech Optical Trackman. It is the most ergonomically designed one I have seen and used so far. Give it a try, what do you have to lose? I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with it's looks, handling, options, and performance.

Digital camera Review: Best right-handed trackball ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best pointing device I've ever used, hands-down. This is the second one I've purchased since I've managed to run out the last one in 4-5 years of very heavy usage. Here's what I like about it.

The real centerpiece of this trackball is the off-center ball. Now, this does make this definitely a right-handed trackball and lefties will probably feel left out, but putting the ball off-center matches the general distribution of your fingers over your hand. It's been to be maneuvered with your index through ring finger, and it is perfectly positioned to roll to any of those fingers as you need to use the scroll wheel or the right mouse button. Compared to a more omni-handed Kensington and the comfort difference is astounding. Likewise, for me, this is infinitely more comfortable than using my thumb for the trackball. The trackball pointing devices that use the thumb inevitably make my hand and thumb joint feel jammed up.

Also compared to Kensington, having a proper vertical scroll wheel is infinitely better than their "orbit ring" in my mind. The index finger quite naturally lines up with the wheel. The overall shape fits my hand comfortably and makes for easy long hours working or gaming.

Construction is solid and it's durable with good maintenance. As noted I used the previous one for at least 4 years, and used it quite heavily for general computer tasking, through EDA tools (Modelsim), through heavy gaming (including FPS and MMORPGs). If you are a button hog, then you might run out, but there's more than enough for me to use and i'm quite pleased with what I've been able to make it do.

Defictis: There are few. As noted, if you are a left handed computer pointer... you'll have to go with a mouse or a Kensington. If you've trained your right hand to point this may work for you. The wireless aspect of the device is not it's strongest feature and there have been a few rare moments when it seems to lose its connection with the base station. And wireless range is probably a little limited, though I've used it successfully several feet away from the base. It does have a few dropouts in motion further away though, so don't use this for a large presentation room or TV gaming.

But that's pretty much it. The sad thing is that Logitech doesn't seem to push this product into stores, so it's a bit hard to find on the shelf where you can do a touch fit. They've used this form factor for awhile though, so hopefully it'll continue to be useful in Amazon sales and make a comeback in a new product again soon. I"m tempted to buy another though to have in reserve in 4-5 years though!

Digital camera Review: Best thing available at time of purchase
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a quality product and Logitech make excellent trackballs. The only reason I bought this technology was because I could not find a bluetooth trackball. I have a bluetooth keyboard and it is much more responsive and you don't have to worry about roving too far from your computer or where the signal receiver is. Having said all that, this is a great option for a desktop computer. For a laptop its kind of a hassle.
