Digital camera reviews of Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel

Digital camera Review: A pleasure to work with
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best pointing device I have ever owned. Much better than a mouse, and leagues better than the Microsoft trackball I used before this one.

I bought the TrackMan because I was experiencing some fatigue on my right shoulder from using my mouse so much. I had used a trackball before (the Microsoft I mentioned previously), but never liked it because the ball kept sticking. I wanted to try another trackball rather than another mouse. I read the reviews here, and decided on the Logitech TrackMan. I was not disappointed.

The feel is very comfortable, and the action is smooth. The supplied driver software allows plenty of customization of the buttons and pointer speed.
I love the acceleration feature. I have two monitors, and getting the pointer from one to the other is a breeze.

The TrackMan was so easy to install. It started working as soon as I had installed the battery and plugged the wireless receiver into my computer, even before I had installed the driver or pressed the 'communicate' buttons!
The driver software provides superb functionality, so I do advise using it even if the Trackman will work without.

If you are used to using a mouse, you may need a little time to become proficient with the trackball, but in the end I believe this is the way to go.

All in all, I am completely happy with this device.

Digital camera Review: A southpaw's sinister, leftist perspective
Summary: 4 Stars

Like davidindallas (below), I'm also left-handed, but I don't share his view of this product. For many years, I used right-handed (and handedness-agnostic) mice with my left hand, sharing them with my right-handed family and friends, rearranging the desk each time. A few years ago, I had an epiphany: if I could just learn to use the danged things with my right hand, I'd be able to write notes with my left. I found that trackballs in general were much easier to use with my non-dominant hand, since they allow me to click a button after placing the pointer where I want it (I find it harder to keep a mouse from moving as I click if I'm using my right hand).

In an important way, David is right: it is absolutely impossible to use this device with your left hand. If you are left-handed, however, you may discover as I did that you can master the use of a trackball with your right hand, and then proceed to amaze your friends and confound your enemies by taking notes and mousing at the same time. If you point this out to your right-handed colleagues, they may all begin demanding left-handed trackballs, but by then you will have left them in the dust.

I gave this product only 4 stars because the ball doesn't move as smoothly, nor is it as comfortably placed, as on the inexplicably discontinued Trackman Marble, and because of the limited range. It works fine under Linux; a minor annoyance, as with most wheel mice, is that a middle button click requires depressing the wheel, which frequently causes an unintended scroll event.

Digital camera Review: Acceptible.
Summary: 3 Stars

For the price I could hope for a few more features (read: buttons). All-in-all, this is a completely serviceable and reliable trackball mouse. I've had no problems with the wireless connection and it works exactly as all of Logitech's products have worked for me: very well. I prefer the trackball positioned for the index finger, but I guess you can't have everything. If you're looking for a simple trackball wireless, there's no reason this one won't fill the bill.

Digital camera Review: Almost Perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

This Logitech's trackman wheel is perfect for those of us who don't work at a desk with space for the usual mouse. My only complaint is that it still has the cable attached.

Digital camera Review: An extension of my mind
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first used this mouse and quickly became familiar with it, I knew that I would never use another type of mouse again. Since it is cordless I can kick back in my recliner and surf the net as quickly as I can think. No more stupid cables or being forcefully tethered to my computer desk, hunched over in a grotesque, moronish posture. All the while my spinal discs cry out in pain from the stress placed upon them like the outdated mouses of yesteryear compell one to do. I consider anyone who doesn't use a Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel mouse to be behind the times and in possession of a lower degree of intelligence. For those who have yet to purchase one of their own, please don't take offense to my previous statement. Get one and see for yourself what a total improvement they are over the obsolete designs from last century.
