Digital camera reviews of Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard (Black/Silver)Digital camera Review: Covers every base really well - one ergonomic shortcoming Summary: 4 Stars
The keyboard covers all the bases from game keys, favorite keys, macros, media - you name it. Everything works flawlessly and as per design. Easy to use interface.
The only short coming, at least for me, is that the underneath adjuster legs that allow its far size to raise up are WAY too small. Raises it only a tiny amount. Almost useless and a suprising thing for them to gloss over. I need a keyboard to be angled more downward toward me and these lifter legs are only about 1/2" - if that.
Also, this is not a shortcoming, just an FYI. It took my brain a while to adjust to the extra 4 inches of keys on the far left side of the keyboard. Over years, your brain gets used to where keys are relative to the end of the keyboard and my fingers keep gravitating toward the far end of the keyboard and mistyping. Its kinda hard to describe, you will see ;^)
But overall, this is slick, sleek and well made!
Digital camera Review: Decent keyboard... Summary: 4 Stars
This is a pretty nice keyboard. I personally like the backlit keys (which is actually what talked me into the keyboard to begin with). There are actually TWO levels of brightness - and they're not too far apart. I prefer the highest setting, since it helps more in my gameroom.
Haven't had enough experience yet to test the macro capability.
The keys feel sturdy, but mushy (which is actually pretty common in keyboard nowadays anyway). Personally I'd feel a little better with more tactile feel, but it'll do.
The extra USB ports will certainly come in handy.
Overall, I'd give it an "A-" only because I think it's a bit expensive.
When I get into it, I think the macro programming ability will be quite a plus.
Digital camera Review: Dependable (One Year After Review) Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this keyboard for a year now and love it to death. I have fiddled with many differant keyboards throughout the years and this is by far the best I have ever worked with. It has proven to me to be dependable and rugged as I have dragged it to lan parties, work, an even now to Afghanistan.
The first and foremost thing one should note about this keyboard is its huge size, this keyboard will consume a sizable amount of desktop real estate, and may or may not fit in many desk's keyboard trays. But with its cable management, which are little groves under the keyboard you are able to hide many wires such as speakers and mouse to make a more presentable desktop appearance.
The second thing one will notice is the plethora of programable G buttons on the left side of the keyboard, and like the rest of the keyboard they are backlit with blueish lighting that is easy on the eyes in dim light. Each key is able to be programed with the included software to perform any number of custom created macros which is pretty usefull in allot of strategy and MMO games. You also havethe ability to create on the fly macros so you don't have to leave your game to do so. With three differant sets you can program up to 54 macros that can be executed at the push of a button.
The third thing you will notice about this keyboard is the backlit LCD display that in its simplest form acts as a clock, cpu monitor, and email checker. But when linked with a supported game such as WoW can be so much more displaying in game stats such as health, ammo, lives, time played, ect. Coupled with the LCD is a very functional media control that includes a nicely done volume circle, pause, play, forward, backwards.
This keyboard also solves a common gaming issue which is the windows key. If pressed during gameplay the windows key can abruptly interrupt you play session by minamizing your game. However with the flick of a switch the G11 transforms it's self into game mode which disables this key temporarily to prevent minimization.
I have used this keyboard daily for about a year now, and one problem that is noted with backlit keyboards is the buttons eventually fade and wear iut ti the point where you can no longer see the keys. I have not had this issue with this board as all my keys remain visable and useable.
All in all if you can afford the desktop space this keyboard consumes and require an enormous amount of programable keys this is the keyboard for you. However if you would prefere a small keyboard with less programable keys check out the Logitech G15 or a keyboard from Razer.
Digital camera Review: Driver issues... Summary: 2 Stars
The keyboard is good in most respects as other reviewers have noted, but I've been having problems with it ever since I installed the drivers.I run Windows 7 64 bit edition and I suspect the drivers may be conflicting with my system. About once every 3 minutes or so everything "locks up" - that is the mouse and keyboard do not respond as the computer is hanging on something. This only happened after I installed the drivers for the Logitech G11 keyboard. A workaround I've been using is to enter control panel and kill the 3 processes related to the keyboard. Interestingly, the volume dial and audio controls appear to be unaffected by killing those processes. Odd. Also, the macros still work fine without the processes running. So, although I am happy with many features of the keyboard, I'm disappointed that there appears to be some sort of driver conflict that causes system hangs. I wonder if anyone else is having these problems with a 64 bit Windows 7 machine...
Digital camera Review: Enter Key stopped working after 14months Summary: 4 Stars
The action of the left crtl key was always strange - it seemed 'notchy'. This was ok - I would have given the keyboard 4 stars based on that. However, after 14 months, the enter key stopped working. Sure, there is another enter key on the numeric keyboard, but a high-end keyboard should last longer than mine did.
Edit: there is a flakiness in the keyboard. The enter key is working now, but it doesn't depress with a consistent feel. Oh well.
