Digital camera Review: Great fun, if it lasts you!

I bought my G25 wheel from Fry's about 3-4 weeks ago at about $50 off the normal price. I was previously using a Microsoft 360 wheel for my PC via the wireless receiver device. That wheel unfortunately is not a sim-centric wheel and has no FFB through PC use, so I got my G25 looking forward to playing games like LFS, iracing, GTR 2, Race and rFactor. My first observation about the wheel upon unboxing is the amount of wiring. Everything connects in a recessed hole on the bottom of the wheel assembly itself: 2 serial ports for the pedals and H-shifter, the USB connection to the computer and AC adapter power plug. It's a tight fit. I don't know why Logitech designed it this way, perhaps for asthetic values if you have to see the back of the wheel. To me I would prefer ease of access for all connections just on the back of the wheel not requiring me to unclamp it from my desk. Because of the connection area, the AC adapter plug seemed to have too much force placed on it. In my experience, any time an AC plug is stressed it results in a intermittent power connection (just try putting lateral force on your speaker AC plug continuously and see if it lasts). Suffice it to say because of the wiring, portability is not great. You should consider once you've set it up or installed it, it's not moving from that area without some hassle.
Another observation was the H-shifter. The H-shifter is decent but moves a little too easily. It doesn't accurately recreate the amount of force required for real gear-shifting. It would have been a lot better with a more tension. As it stands, you'll be looking for a 3rd party shifter if you want a true sim experience.
Installation and setup was easy enough and I had fun zipping through a few games. When it works, the G25 is a great wheel, with excellent FFB effects, 900 degress of rotation and good pedal resistance. Unfortunately for me, mine stopped self-calibrating and required replacement (which is to be arriving soon). For something that cost over $200, I expected it to last much longer. So in the meantime I'm back to my 360 wheel minus FFB, clutch and H-shifter. Say what you want about Microsoft, but I found their $99 wheel to be much more reliable and durable.
