Digital camera reviews of Logitech G25 Racing Wheel

Digital camera Review: Excellent wheel for PS3
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic product. I've never owned a wheel before, but wow the force feedback adds so much to the experience. The leather is nice to the touch and feels similar to an STI wheel except smaller. The best part is the paddle shifters which I prefer over the gearbox or sequential shifter. Very easy to use unless you spin out in which case you might hit the wrong one.

There are some caveats. First, it wasn't explicitly made for the PS3, so you'll have to figure out which buttons do what. However, it's obvious the designers anticipated PS2 or PS3 use so there are some familiar control sets. I didn't explore much, but didn't find the button to shift the driver perspective. I prefer the default one so no big deal. Second, the clutch doesn't seem to really do anything. You can just shift without it so why bother using it. No pesky synchros here! Third, the pedals are a little too close as I'll sometimes hit the clutch and the brake when slowing.. Fourth, be careful when a race starts as the wheel's rest position isn't always straight.

As for additional hardware, you may need a USB extension cable as the one supplied only goes 5 feet or so. Same for the AC.

Digital camera Review: Expensive, but worth it
Summary: 4 Stars

As the title says, its expensive, but definitely worth it. I was afraid when I purchased this, I have never owned a wheel before and wanted to have the best I could get for my money. I am not disappointed nor do I regret it. All parts are very durable being made out of stamped steel, even the gear shifter is a steel shaft, although when using the gear shifter you have to be a bit gentle or you miss gears in H-Shift mode.

The steering wheel is a decent size for what its used for and fits your hand perfectly. I am 6'3" and have big hands, this wheel is as thick as the one in my Chevy Blazer, and feels just as comfortable with its leather bindings. the shifting knob is small but easily used and it does let you know its there. The clamp jaws are plastic but the screws they travel on are metal. Dont let the plastic fool you though, they are very strong and this wheel, once clamped down, does not move. Same with the shifter (with proper use).

The foot pedals are great too, the brake is very firm and you really have to push it, just like a real brake pedal. I dont use the clutch pedal, so I cant comment on that. The accepterator pedal though isnt near as stiff, I can push it with my big toe and feel some resistance, but I guess real cars are the same these days with the drive by wire technology from what I hear.

All in all, I am happy with this buy, even though it set me back a bit. oh, before I forget, beware the force feedback, make sure you have a good grip on the wheel, especially if you have never used a force feedback wheel before, it will rip the wheel right out of your hands :). Luckily the wheel itself comes with a setup program (Vista version is downloadable on the logitech site) where you can set the amount of force used, and also many game may have the same option in game.

Digital camera Review: Expensive,,,but fun to use!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's expensive, but it is really fun to use, it even helped me improve on some of my times.

Digital camera Review: Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first wheel I have ever purchased. The strange thing was I meant to shop for some rudders to play with my flight sim and somehow ended up with this instead. I was amazed that how great everyone talked about it, and I ended up deciding to buy it. The most shocking thing is not one website nor does Logitech mention that it works with Mac computers and no need to download any drivers. The game recognized it once I inserted the usb plug. It also of course works for window computers and I can even use the brake, gas, and clutch as rudders for flight sims. Seems like I got more than I originally wanted and I am happy.

1. works with mac computers
2. works with window computers
3. can even act as rudders for flight sims
4. works with Play Station

If you do not mind dropping the $300.00 I would recommend this, the steering wheel is great to the feel, much better than my real one. The stick shift is nice as well and comes with many programable buttons as there are also two on the wheel.

Digital camera Review: Fantastic product. Fully PS3 compatible.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not an eloquent guy, and certainly not a frequent Amazon reviewer, but I just thought I'd clear up questions if anyone else is in the same boat I was (PS3 owner looking for a wheel).

I love driving sims for PS2, and thought the G25 would be a great way to get my dad to play some games too. I wasn't sure how the G25 would work with the PS3, but lo, it's flawless. Hooked up via USB, the wheel can fully mimic the function of the Driving Force Pro, so Gran Turismo and ToCA give you everything they've got. It also has a lot of future potential with the Gated gearbox and clutch-pedal that most current games don't use. The only reason you might keep a sixaxis handy is for the "home" button to quit to the XMB (ps3 OS).

"Feedback" is an understatement, as the word makes me think of the N64 rumble-pack. Most of you potential buyers are already aware of the wheel pulling you out of turns, or giving enough feedback so you know just when you're about to lose grip through a corner. But the G25 can be so subtle that it almost creates a "3D" feedback map. I'm not sure how to explain it, but when your in-game left rear tire hits a rumble strip, it feel like that specific tire has really hit a rumble strip. I have no idea how they do this with just two force motors in the G25.

In any event, the quality of the road-response is absolutely worth the price, which is already pretty decent here with free shipping. The DFP was tempting, as I've tried it on a PS2, but this wheel is much more subtle, much better looking, and will be the gold-standard for future driving games. No regrets here, just a happy father-son bonding experience and less wear on our real-world cars.
