Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The G9 Laser Gaming Mouse from Logitech is a very, very good mouse. It features wide customization capability, allowing it to be turned from a smooth-finished and feather-light piece into a heftier piece with a non-skid surface - and that's just the parts included in the package. The cover pops off and is replaceable, and you can apparently buy extra covers, though I haven't been able to find any as of yet.

I played a few games with the G9, chief among them Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and the World in Conflict demo. Jedi Outcast was greatly enhanced by even the basic functionality available without the drivers of the mouse. Switching force powers and weapons became a snap, and switching the DPI setting of the mouse allowed for elegant and swift use of mounted weapons, which are otherwise somewhat slow. World in Conflict was less improved, though the smooth-rolling scroll wheel was an excellent tool here.

The biggest minus in my book comes from the software. G9 comes with version 5 of Logitech's SetPoint software, in a version specialized for the G9 - and that software has issues. On first install, it ignored the presence of the G9, on my Windows XP machine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it... Which made the mouse stop working at all. Turns out that the driver that is installed apparently failed completely to initialize, leaving the mouse inactive. Rolling the driver back to the standard Windows mouse driver made it work again, but made SetPoint decide that no mouse was connected.

If Logitech gets their software to work on Windows XP, this is a five-star piece of equipment. The price tag is high, but you get value for every dollar. As it is, the faulty driver and set-up software mars the overall impression and limits the otherwise great options available.

Digital camera Review: Excellent functionality but HORRIBLE ERGONOMICS
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm always on the hunt for the 'best' mouse and mousing surface. I've had numerous mice from Microsoft and Logitech and generally speaking find the Logitech products superior. Functionality wise the G9 is excellent. Plenty of buttons, customization, and precision. However, it has to be THE MOST uncomfortable mouse I've used. The shells are small and lack any type of palm support as found with most of Logitech's other mice such as the MX400 Laser I've grown to love. The shells are angular and without comfortable curves. The side buttons are small, cramped, and placed too far towards the back of the mouse to be easily used without further forcing your hand down and off the mouse.

Honestly I hate it. It's giving me serious hand cramps and fatigue. I have to hold my hand in the air and back off the mouse to position the buttons into usable positions. It's just downright horrible regarding ergonimics. Going back to Amazon for a refund.

Digital camera Review: Excellent gaming mouse all around
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent mouse for gaming or anything else. What few complaints I had were minor at best. Currently, there is no mouse I'd recommend more... although I should be reviewing the Razer Mamba soon, so we'll see who reigns supreme.

Digital camera Review: Excellent mouse that is well built
Summary: 5 Stars

4.5 Star

It is difficult to pay $100 for a mouse when you can get by with a few dollar ones. But when that $100 mouse is half that price, it is an opportunity to jump on the deal.

I had been looking into getting a gaming mouse. Most gaming mouse seems to be overpriced for what it does. Logitech G9 used to be one of those but it is a quite a deal since Logitech seems to be dumping it over new G9x.

Despite the sale, the mouse is one of well built mouse on the market. Build quality is excellent, packaging is superb. You get 8 set of weights, 2 mouse forms to fit your size, built-in memory to save profiles 7 button mouse with tilt left and right on the middle button and its high-end braided usb cord. Mouse's feet is also high quality slip plastic.

There is one catch on this mouse as far as I can see. It is the middle button. I use middle button alot and this button is hard to press and it doesn't give you solid click either. It is quite annoying and I would cut half a star for it.
