Digital camera Review: Just tell it what to do!

The state of the art in AV systems today is such that the components will not report their configuration to your remote control device. You have to tell it what to do. Knowing that, I gave this product a 5 rating. If you (or somebody) knows the exact models of all of your components (TV,BD,DVD,CABLE BOX, DVR, Receiver etc.), and knows how these devices are hooked up and configured, then all one has to do is install the software on your PC, which will connect to the internet and run you through a logical sequence of questions about how you use your components. When you are done with that, you connect your 550 to your computer using the included USB cable, and click on the "update remote" button in the software. You can watch the remote load and restart. There is a good chance that the default configuration at this point will be very satisfactory, and if so, you are done. Many may want to use it for a while, to see if they want to add some "soft buttons" on the LCD screen for some of their commonly used functions (On Demand, Favorites etc.). At some point, you'll call it good, and you won't have to mess with it again until something changes.
