This remote works well once you have it set up correctly but there is a manufacturing problem and the buttons always wear out within one year. This has to us twice. I bought this as a spare universal remote in case my sons broke my Grundig GDDR8250HDD hard disk DVD recorder remote. It was broken before and I another player too. Before getting the remote, I did "test drive" the Harmony 550 at logitech website and was able to find my models inside. When the product arrived, I opened it (it was easy to open albeit it was plastic sealed up), the 4 AAA Duracell batteries are already loaded (there's 4 Duracell spare batteries too!) and plug it to USB (come with USB cable) port, load the CD and install. I got Internet access (which is essential) and I setup a user account, add a few devices, including my Sharp TV, Dell TV and most importantly Grundig DVD recorder (I could not find GDDR8250HDD but I could find GDDR8160HDD which is essentially same model with lower HDD capacity. It doesn't matter anyway.). The software is updated, firmware of Harmony 550 updated and finally the remote is updated with the devices I wanted to control, all within 30 minutes! I tried to control all my devices and it worked all to my expectation! Everything in 30 minutes! It could also control air-con units (a bonus which I didn't expect). One last thing, there are 2 IR ports, both in front and back. One thing I always hoped for is for a skin to be available, to protect these Harmony remotes against drop/scratches/water?, especially the higher end ones. This remote deserves 5 stars, it is not perfect but I couldn't find any better and worth the value.
Update (4 Jul 2008):
I realized I can use the control without any 4AAA batteries at all. My Grundig DVD recorder has a USB port. I just plugged in the USB cable and the control can work without any batteries. Save the EARTH!

This product is great, I was controlling an LCD TV screen, an AV amplifier, radio ,DVD player, HDTV recorder, regular Digital recorder( tivo) 4 separate inputs. Now all automatic. Requires some computer savy and a will to set up initially.
The set up can be done on-line which makes it very easy to program and to change if you want to.

Only pros here:
* Very reasonably priced
* Excellent setup/software bundle (I was able to setup 8 devices 4 of which were going through a remote controlled splitter/switch system in about 20 minutes with no frustration from the software)
* Create multiple macros (i.e. One touch, everything on and ready) which you can rename using the software.
* Great list of supported remote profiles (it was able to support a rather obscure component cable/optical switch device as well as a off-brand Dynex iPod docking station)
* Excellent phone support
Short summary: I have eight IR controlled devices in my Home Theater setup with fairly complex configurations (e.g. Blu-Ray player and XBox 360 both going into Video 2 on my TV controlled by an IR controlled switch). The software that comes with the 550 is not perfect, but it is very, very good. I found it easy to locate my devices and then to batch togeather a group of task to be sent and tie those to one-touch keys.
After about 20-minutes I now have the ability to: turn on all my device, adjust my switches and imputs in a single click. I can do this for any fuction I want (e.g. Watch TV, Watch DVD, Play 360, Play PS2, Play Wii). This remote did exactly what I was looking for and it did so about 35% of the price I was expecting to have to pay. It's not the most flashy remote on the market, but it does its job well and it's very affordable comparitively.

it or what it says it can do.I can only say that I`m not sorry I got
this product,just wished I should have gotten it sooner.
